SMA/RP-SMA?
#1
My little black plastic antenna housing disappeared (crash).  I'm going to replace with some better quality antennas - need some clarification:

The antenna port on the transmitter looks like this:

So is the antenna I need for the TX side SMA or RP-SMA?

Like this?

Thanks!

always look at the plug(antena) not at the jack (vtx/vrx)...

now the tricky part if something sticks there "penis" it is sma...
if the stick is not there "remove penis" it is RP...SMA - now you will remember what RP stands for in this area...

this is the only way i can remember it. Kudos to Konrad easy way to remember it and... as almost grownups...
All the best

Bump and follow up. I ran my vtx antenna through the prop blender this weekend. After much reading here and rcgroups.com and others, I've noticed that my vtx antenna port is an RP-SMA jack, but the jack on my Quanum Cyclops "goggle" is an SMA. Now the recommendation is for both tx and rx to be the same polarity. I was hoping someone could verify that before I buy a new vtx.

I'm looking to upgrade the stir stick style antennas on the quad and goggles both, so want to make sure I get the best compatibility for quality and range.

Thanks!

I think I just answered my own question.  Or rather Oscar did (as usual).

Quote:The term “reverse polarity” here basically means the change of gender. It might confuse those who are not WiFi engineers, as polarity elsewhere in radio frequency literature can refer to the electromagnetic polarity, not to a change of gender.

So the "RP-SMA" vs "SMA" should have absolutely no bearing on the signal quality/range/compatibility - Correct?

Correct.  The polarity you have to match on Tx/Rx is the "circular" polarity.  (Both must be the same - either RHCP or LHCP.)

Thank you much sir!
