Shrieker 130
#1
I have a small backyard, too small for a regular mini-quad, but not for a micro. Few weeks ago a buddy put together a Shrieker with a similar setup as below and let me take the sticks for a minute, it was a riot and I knew I will be building one soon. Another friend had an extra Shrieker frame he was not planning on building so I did not hesitate. Here is the parts list:

Build
  • Frame: Shrieker 130 from Shendrones with a 3D printer bumper kit
  • PDB: MXK Power Distribution Board PDB with OSD
  • Flight Controller: SPRacingF3 with Betaflight 2.7.0 running on 2KHz
  • Motors: RCX H1407 3800kv
  • ESCs: DYS XM 10A (Damped Light and Oneshot enabled)
  • Radio: FrSky XSR (sbus)
FPV
  • Video TX: Eachine ET600 5.8GHz
  • FPV Camera: Pyro Drone 1/3 Sony Super HAD II CCD 650 tvl IR Sensitive
  • OSD: MinimOSD with MultiWii firmware
Misc
  1. Battery: 3S TATTU 75C 1300mAh
  2. Propellers: T3045BN DAL tri blades
Tune: LuxFloat PID Controller – defaults for Betaflight 2.7.0

Putting everything together was a challenge. There is very little room on the frame and the arms are short. There was no way I could solder the motor wires directly on the ESCs so I looped them underneath. All in all, it came together and was relatively clean.

The PDB + OSD combo was great, perfect for this build. For bigger builds, I'd be concerned about the 30A max per ESC channel, but for a micro or more casual mini - that is plenty. The ESCs flashed to BLHeli 14.4 with no problems via FC passthrough. Using a standard hs1177 FPV camera is a big plus IMO, it makes the flying experience a lot closer to a regular quad.

Overall the quad turned a bit heavier than expected, the motors and camera probably contributed - right around 200g without battery. The RCX motors do a fantastic job of keeping it in the air and nimble however.

I was too excited, so I did not take any mid-build pictures, just this one of the general fit:

The rest are some promo shots, I generally take of all my finished builds:

The quad flew pretty good on the first maiden LOS, so I decided to put on the googles. Forgetting I max-tilted the camera during build, this little thing sprung with such speed, I almost lost control. The next few minutes of flight were pure joy, despite the heavy 1300mAh TATTU 3S.

Great build.. Isn't the 1300mah a bit heavy for this size? I see a lot of people run 800mah even 450 mah on theirs

What flight time do you get ?

Sorry for the late reply, had not check the thread in a bit. Yeah the 1300mah is heavy but its the smallest I had. I ordered an 800mah but it came with a XT30 connector that I have to replace at some point. I want to try a lighter battery and see if I can fit a Runcam HD on it.

I get around 4-5 minutes of flight (fun) time.

Unfortunately the OSD did not last. 5-6 flights and it stopped responding, could not be reflashed or recovered in any way I tried so I bypassed it, so the PDB was a bit disappointing from that perspective.

I've seen that guy, kind of heavy set, big gnarly beard, shows up on my security cameras all the time. I think he might be sleeping with my wife too! As long as he does a chore or two around the house so I can go fly more, we are cool.  Big Grin

Yeah, those MXK boards are garbage. Does anybody knows something similiar that actually works? I have read that Matek is making PDB with OSD, but can't find it now.
