I'm totally new in this, I've just finished collecting all the parts and now I will solder them together but before doing so I want to ask if I need to update KISS 24a RE's firmware.

it came with v1.03 and I think there is 1.08 available but I want to ask is there any point for me to go through the hassle of getting usb-serial adapter and doing all this, will I even notice any difference afterwards or it's somewhat like app updates on android where no one ever sees any difference?

I believe the latest kiss ESC firmware is 1.03? Maybe you are referring to FC firmware? Don't get confused about the 2

It's best to update the firmware normally there are bug fixes and performance improvement

No there's newer versions (think of Dshot, that wasn't in 1.03).

BUT kiss escs with firmware beyond 1.02 are equipped with bootloader, which allows the escs to be updated over a Kiss FC.

So...
- in case you are using a Kiss FC, you can update them over the FC, after building
- for any other FC: 1.03 is fine unless you want to test Dshot protocol
