Should I get rid of my Turnigy 9X ? Can't get either of my quad to respond
#1
Sooo, might be a bit of a long winded thread but I guess it is better to explain everything from the start.

After looking at quads and other drones for a long time, late 2016 I took the opportunity of a hobbyking deal to get my first quad called the fpv250 which to my understanding is a reboxed Diatone model.

I did quite a bit of reading at the time in order to find the right transmitter and I settle for a turnigy 9X which was affordable, expendable (due to the 8ch) and seemed reliable.

I was originally using a KK 2.1.5 as suggested by HK, build went fine but I didn't had any fpv gear to start with so I started to fly line of sight at first.

After a few month, I can't remember how and why I did it but I fried my FC and my receiver.

I ordered a spare receiver and I swapped my KK for a Naze32

In the meantime I did the "resistor mod" on my Turnigy 9X" which allows to use the transmitter on a simulator (fpvfreerider) without having to disconnect the transmitting part of the remote everytime.

Few month went by because life is busy and in the meantime I also bought a wizard X220 after reading/hearing a lot of good about it.

Here's where I am at now : both FC in both quads have been flashed to the latest firmware, both quad are recognized under cleanflight or betaflight, both receiver seem to pair with the Turnigy 9X

However I am getting absolutely no response from the quads when using the transmitter, by that I mean the config screen in both software shows absolutely no input.

So I tried : binding both receiver again, disabled the "trainer mode" on the 9X, checked if any pins were bended/damaged on the transmitter (none were), removed the resistor and recreated a direct path on the board, remapping of the input, checked I was using PPM

nothing worked ..

I seem to run out of options so any help/idea would be greatly appreciated

What receivers do you have?

Turnigy 9X receiver in one quad, FlySky FS-R9B in the other, read they were exactly the same and after opening them it does seem so

Could you post your receiver setting in betaflight? e.g. Configuration tab?

Does the receiver even giving out PWM signals?
Try connecting Ch1 to a RC input on the FC see if you get any signal?

Need pics of the 'ports' tab and the 'receiver' box in the 'configuration' tab.

From the dropdown options in the receiver box, you should have an option to change it to PWM, see if that helps...

tried the T9X in PPM and PCM after changing the option in the dropdown box but it made no difference unfortunately Sad

Is there a way to check my transmitter is actually .. transmitting anything ?

Best place to ask about your TX is on http://openrcforums.com/forum/

Can you post a photo of your wiring?

If you have a servo you can plug the servo into the RX and see if it's actually working... But with the fact that both of your quads are having the same issue leaves me thinking it could be your TX?
unfortunately i don't use the 9X (anymore), so not sure where to start with troubleshooting it. Maybe go back to default settings, or create a new model see if that makes any difference.
Also try resetting your FC too

Ok so today I did a factory reset on the 9x, flashed my FC on the wizard, rebinded, checked my wiring again as per the board's manual (http://seriouslypro.com/files/SPRacingF3...latest.pdf) and it seems correct :

Unfortunately still nothing .. Sad

Might order a servo at HK to check the receivers

Here's the resistor mod, did I overdo it and damaged something ? So far I tend to think that's where the problem is coming from

On another note when I'm using betaflight and I test my motors one of them stopped rotating, used to work fine at first, I will check the wiring but otherwise I'm thinking ESC or motor fault, I don't have spares and I don't really want to wait for a delivery from China, would this ESC be a suitable replacement ?

I didn't see any documentation that your RX does PPM. If that is the case, you will need to wire for PWM. Which means running a wire for each channel.

Thank you !! I went back to my other quad which has this kind of setup (photo below) and after changing the receiver to PWM in cleanflight, I do receive signal !

Now I don't really understand how it all works as my Tx is still set up to PPM and my channels need remapped but it's a huge progress and it means I didn't ruin my 9X !!
