Should i do Chris Rosser's PID tuning?
#1
hi guys. I haven't been flying for months because I didn't have a working radio so far, but today I went out to Crack some lipos and I thought about not making any changes to betaflight or my pids although I am very tempted to do Chris Rosser's PID tuning, what do you think, have any of you tried this method?
seems risky although I fly with almost no filters and the surprising thing is that after a full 3-minute flight the motors were not even warm and I was using beat-up props. I'm really impressed that my motors were so cold after flying like that.

Chris goes a level (or more) deeper whereas I'm more about process (insert tab A into slot B). In fairness, we both got a lot of the approach from UAV Tech. So if you wanna go to the source most everyone relies on for their tuning guides, it's UAV Tech.

There is nothing new about Chris approach.
Some start with P.. some start with D.

oldschool
1. Check noise and reduce filtering
2. Find P/D balance
3. Raise all PID to make sharper and reduce propwash.

Chris
1. Filters - reduce more
2. Start with D=35 or 40.
3. Find P/D balance

Both only for rough tune.
Neither address antigravity, TPA, ESC settings etc
Should arrive at similar result.

If I cant cleanup propwash or mid throttle vibes.. I try different props or look for better frame / mechanical.

Tuning can only do so much.
