Should have bought extra motors.

First time trying 3s out. Spent all day black box tuning and on my first test flight I barely get into it, smack a tree, and bend a motor. Now I wait a week for replacements. I think my little test area might be beyond my abilities. Doesn’t help winds were 20mph. But I really wanted to test it out lol

Sometimes I wonder if damage like that is just bad luck or weak products. Two of my quads have smashed through trees and dirt dozens of times with no damage, and one of them takes soft hits and randomly kills motors.

Bad luck I think. I have been in much worse crashes without destroying motors. Just yesterday I smacked the wall at full speed with my odonata, straitened the battery, and went on my way. I did hear a solid contact on the tree truck though crashing into the branches.

I’m looking for the xnova 1804 3500kv for my 4” WS build. They are unavailable and have a 3mm inner shaft. T motor has some but the inner shaft is either 2or 2.5mm and not as durable.
Buying “on sale” can save money up front, not saying $ = durability.. I’m going on reconditions from actual crashed quads

That didn't look like a very hard crash, more like sliding into the tree and looked like it was mostly branches, but I guess its hard to tell from the FPV feed. What bent, the shaft the bell? I guess I should be more careful with these motors.
