Serial Chargin Lipo batteries
#1
I know parallel charging, but Does anyone here Serial charge their lipos?

From reading some articles it seems like it's the better way to go.

Serial charging is exactly the same as charging a pack with more cells.. i.e. 2x 3S would be charged like a 6S battery.

It's easier to charger more packs with parallel, but serial is suppose to be safer since you're not having to let the batteries rebalance on their own

What do you guys think? is this a good idea?
Does every cell needs to be the same voltage when I do serial charging?

I read it from here: http://www.tjinguytech.com/charging-how-...l-charging

Yes and no. I prefer using multiple chargers at once and charging one lipo on each. Parallel is useful if you only have one charger and need multiple lipos charged at once. But you HAVE to make sure they are all the same cell count as well as capacity. It is also helpful and safer if all the lipos are at about the same voltage per cell before you start to charge in parallel.

each cell is a separate battery so the voltages need to match for optimum performance , they change (became slightly different) because of problems in manufacturing due to which each cell has a slightly different capacity but when they are charged equally there is less chance of overcharging orover-discharging a single cell

If you serial charge 2 x 3cell LiPos as 1 x 6 cell LiPo then the cells do not need to match. If the cells don't match then a balance charge will match them. But if they are out by much it may take ages. This is a better method than parallel charging because each cell is balanced individually.

Serial charging sounds like a good idea, but most chargers are only up to 6s so for 4s guys that's not really a possibility for most people

Most chargers give you up to 6s, 6s is not divisible into 4s, which is the most popular options to date.
The main subtle caveat to be aware of with parallel charging are differences between internal resistance of batteries. Summary current will be divided proportionally to each battery's IR, possibly exceeding 1C charge rate.
What do you mean by "let the batteries rebalance on their own"? Slight differences in cell voltage before the start of charging process?
