Runcam phoenix 2 jb edition uart problems

I should think in time the uart connection for the osd will be pretty much the norm on f7 flight controllers. Little old me jusg trying to get ahead of the game
?.

I said yesterday that I'm waiting on RunCam to get back to me well they did.

Check out my attached pic.

Does anyone have an idea as to why. I would have to remove said piece. Before I attempt to remove it and potentially damage my camera I'd like to know a little more.

I assume they have old motherboards they're using that have this piece and is preventing the uart control.

Voodoo you have any idea?

Cheers guys
Big Grin

I got the same exact message from Runcam, and not feeling confident to doing all this in regards to warranty and such...
Would rather get a new "workign" tested camera...

What do people here think?

One of the "selling points" of the RunCam Phoenix 2 JB Edition camera is that is has UART camera control whereas the non JB edition doesn't. But if you have to start removing components from the circuit board of the camera to get that functionality working then it makes a mockery of that particular selling feature. I'm sure JB won't be too happy about that for a product that has his name on it.

I have the same issue, I sent him a note on it as well

I wrote him first describing the problem , and got a swift "contact runcam support , it is a known issue"  as a reply.

I'll try to take this with my local vendor, as they might ask to refund from manufacturer.  To me , breaking down the drone, desoldering, potentially voiding warranty and damaging the camera makes UART control not worth it..

Might as well get a camera which works...

Well that's quite a disappointing response.

Or if people still specifically want a RunCam Phoenix 2 then they should just get the slightly cheaper non-JB version which only has analogue Camera Control and save themselves a bit of cash.

What’s gotten me wondering is that the JB edition RunCam Phoenix 2 was released about an year ago and what a coincidence that we suddenly have 2 threads on the forum on the same issue with the UART control not working.

I hope something did not break with the Runcam protocol implementation in Betaflight recently?

Or did Runcam make some unwanted hardware changes with the new batches of these cameras?

Got through to my shop, and they could offer a value ticket for the amount of the cam, as well as i could keep the cam and try to solder.

JB got back to to me and said he was a bit dissapointed with Runcam, and hoped it would just be a small batch. However props to him for replying.

JB seemed to imply it might be bad batch, no admission from runcam whether this is for all or just a few.

Hi Phoenix 2 - bothered brothers & sisters in FPV - I might have a solution for OSD cam control (analog) for this camera:

First I could not enter the cam menu, even though the 'menu' pin was connected to c.control pin on my FC (T-Motor F7 Mini HD). Then I started playing around with the resistor values and ended up wioth a perfectly functioning OSD cam control by doing this mod as a CLI inout in betaflight:

set camera_control_internal_resistance = 270
set camera_control_button_resistance = 450,270,150,75,15

Maybe it helps with some of your mentioned issues... :-)
