Review: BeeRotor AUTOR 5.8Ghz Dual Diversity with DVR
#1
Had a chance to try out my BeeRotor AUTOR 5.8Ghz 40 channel Dual Diversity with DVR from https://www.BuzzHobbies today. Am impressed.

This is what you get in the kit (Excludes the Lipo).

Package includes:
1 TuroR AV Receiver
1 5.8G 5dB Panel antenna
1 5.8G Mushroom antenna
1 XT60 Power wire
1 DVR AV out wire
1 V to AV Cable

Specs:
VideoPower On Working: Plug and Play
Automatically switch to the frequency with better signal
SMA antennas
Tripod Mounting Screw
Support 7-24V power input
One DVR output
Two AV output
Supports Micro SD card(Up to 32GB)
Size: 14.8mm*28mm*59mm
Weight: 214g without antennas

This Dual diversity receiver is based upon the Rx5808 Pro Diversity DIY Receiver Kit, which has been around in various forms for a while now.

The beauty of the BeeRotor kit is that it comes in a very nice aluminium case, complete with a built in DVR that supports up to 32gb Micro SD cards.
Has 2 very nice Velcro straps to hold it to your Tripod.

The menu on this is very nice, easy to read, and very easy to navigate with 1 spring loaded control wheel on top of the unit.

You can opt to let the unit Auto scan for your channel or manually add it in, which is what I did, call me old fashioned, but I just like knowing the channel is on the channel I selected and it will stay there.

You can also add your own name to it as I did with mine.

And did I mention it has a built in DVR?

I tested out the diversity first at home and powered up a quad on the bench, left a fan going to blow cool air over it while I took the Beerotor outside for a walk, It was cool to see how quickly it swapped from 1 antenna to the next and not only that it also gives you signal strength in the form of a horizontal bar for Antenna A and Antenna B, Of course this is rather mute as when you are flying you cannot see it anyways, but is very good for testing purposes.

The change over from 1 antenna to the other is lightning quick. and is shown by a Bright green light for which ever Antenna is in operation.

So with that test out of the way, lets see how it performs where it counts.

Loaded up the car, and restrained myself and took only 1 quad and 3 lipos  (there to test not fly and bloody well enjoy myself.)

Setup the tripod and receiver, popped in a micro sd card, powered up..Oh, and it will start recording the moment you apply power and starts recording static, as soon as you power up your quad it creates and new file and starts recording again.  a bit odd, but seems to work, I could not however find a way to manually turn off the DVR, but as soon as you unplug your quad it stops recording from the camera and goes back to recording static.

The quality of the recording is easily as good or better than that from my Goggles DVR and small stand alone DVR.

You cannot playback any footage on the unit itself, so make you have a suitable device for playing out in the field should you need to view footage of where your quad crashed.

I have been using a FR632 Dual Diversity receiver for ages now and never had any issues with it at all, But when I saw I could have dual diversity and DVR in one package I was pretty pleased.

Is the BeeRotor Dual Diversity receiver any good?  Yes, very good, the added bonus of the DVR is a huge plus for me, means I have a one stop shop in a nice aluminium package.

Is it better than the FR632?, Yes, because of the built in DVR, As a receiver, it changes over antenna's so quick, you might maybe  get 1 or 2 quick flickers in your goggles and BAM, it changes over. Of course it does also depend on your antenna choice.

It comes standard with

5.8G 5dB Panel antenna and a 5.8G Mushroom antenna, which worked fine, well to be fair, better than fine..really good.

Also, forgot to mention the unit accepts SMA antenna's out of the box, so for those with RPSMA antennas, you need an adaptor.

I have since found that several other  places stock an identical product just branded differently, even our good sponsors FPVmodel have a version

Now..The cost. $130 Australian, which is about $95 USD from www.Buzzhobbies.com.au

or $87 USD from www.FPVmodel.com

I opted to buy local as postage is next to nothing for me.

Damn that thing looks sexy
Is the switching of receiver obvious?
I like that feature where it starts a new file in DVR, but would be great to stop it starting automatically...

I had no idea it switched over when I was flying, clearly it would have been, but  anyone would be hard pressed to notice, It is a really nice unit.

Looks like a really nice unit Steve, but has no onboard display.  I am using an FR632 with a DX600 DVR.  There are few thigns I DON'T like about the DX600, but I do like the onboard display.  That way when I crash land in no mans land, I can carry the DVR with me and have the video to look at while I search without having to have some other form of monitor.  It's so small I can just drop it in my pocket while I'm not using it.  All that said, I DO like a lot of the features of the BeeRotor.   Hmmmmm....do I need TWO DVR's.....could be.......... This is nice! Do you have a special set of goggles to use with units like this, or do you just use your regular Fat Shark's?

I have only used my dvr recordings once to help find a quad and as I carry a Surface Pro with when I fly it would be no hassle.  I too have a DX600 (albeit branded different) and was plugging it into my FR632, But now..I don't have to. Big Grin

No special goggles, if your goggles has a AV IN port you are good to go. Big Grin

Are you using PAL? Do you have any issues with part of the image being cut off?

Just asking because I've been using a cheap "HMDVR Mini DVR Video Audio Recorder For FPV Multicopters" from Banggood and I lose the bottom of my picture (with PAL).

Any noticeable lag on the AV out while recording?

Noticed any difference in reception quality compared to the FR632?

Thanks!

Hi there,

No video being cutoff at all, and yes I use PAL.

No noticeable lag at all, and quality wise regards signal is on par with the FR632, as far as dual recivers go You would be hard pressed to tell the difference between them, as I said, the Beerotor fit the bill for me as it has the built in DVR.

Hello,
I have Beerotor AUTOR.
This is good receiver. Good included antenas. Perfect for use with goggles and monitor for visitors. 2x video out and 1x dvr out.
I use PAL. But DVR output is in NTSC. DVR havent any control button. Not possible set date/time. File name start in 20100101_000000.avi (yyymmdd_hhmmss). Not possible start/stop recording or replay saved videos.
I can't find any manual for it.

Sorry for my bad english.

So I have LaForge already for my Dom3's - what is the benefit to me setting this up vs. my LaForge (if there is a benefit)?

I use Skyzone goggles with dual diversity and with dual diversity ground station allows you to have it up high on a tripod, with 1 helical pointing in the direction you plan flying furthest and a spironet to cover the rest. As you can make the unit sit higher it gives a much better signal.

This one also has a very nice built in DVR which starts recording when you plug power in.

I guess it is personal prefence, but honestly, once you try a good ground station it is hard to go back to just goggles.  Of course I still use just my goggles if I am having a quick spur of the moment flight, but if I am flying for the day it is with a ground station every time.

Nice review. Looks like a very nice setup, and with the built in DVR it is impressive.
