HOOOOW?!!?! If I knew you didn't need money, earning power, assets or IP in order to buy Fatshark I'd have done it years ago! Yes, and Orqa are probably revelling in the prospect of one of the most hated companies in FPV taking over and killing the reputation of their biggest competitor. It feels like they are starting to show the DJI hit and trying to recover from it at all costs. Fatshark is going the Frsky route. Frsky and Fatshark were, until now, references on the fpv world, but they will rapidly fall if they break the attachment with the community. Frsky already done that. Now Fatshark with this odd move... Posts: 1,312 Threads: 50 Likes Received: 832 in 504 posts Likes Given: 372 Joined: Jul 2018 Reputation: 51 I kinda assumed they were still solvent though. I mean we knew Rotor Riot wasn't doing well financially, but I kinda assumed Fatshark was at least safe. But I'm starting to wonder now that they've sold out to the Redcat Investment Escrow Service ("Give us your money so we can buy real companies!") That said, they've being doing a '90s Nokia' for years. If you're lucky enough to get to the top of your game with almost no competition, don't spend the next X number of years releasing miniscule upgrades and ignoring customer requests. They've been resting on their early successes forever and it was high time someone came and took their lunch money. The ground is for dead people. Fatshark seems to be folding and grabing someone's hand. They could have choosen another partner though. Eachine would be a better alliance for example. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 05-Oct-2020, 07:12 PM (This post was last modified: 05-Oct-2020, 07:13 PM by the.ronin.) My sense is all indications have always suggested Greg never looked at this as a business but more as a hobby. I mean come on, power button, SD card, shark byte fat byte shark ... he has always treated this as a way to fund his hobby with little (if any) regard to what the customer asks for. Which is totally fine ... if not a dick move for the rest of us but hey who am I to preach. He saw the writing on the wall starting with Orqa and now his never ending golden egg laying goose was in jeopardy ... hence the hastily launched HDO2 which may as well be Orqa v1.5. Then enter DJI ... holy schmoly poor ol Greg didn't see that one comin'. Enter Byte (Me In The Ass) Frost ... well sorry Greg, DJI aint no Orqa more like Godzilla. A hasty launch of a truly half assed wanna-be HD system just aint gonna cut it. Try as he might (and based on his whiney posts on RCG, he tried his damndest), he might have actually had to ... gasp ... use money from Fat Shark to ... gasp ... reinvest. But no, eff that noise, sell to Red Cat. Have a nice day, suckers. He actually makes a very good point in that Red Cat own Rotor Riot, and Rotor Riot are in bed with DJI. So I wonder how that will pan out with Red Cat owning a potential competitor of DJI in the digital FPV market. • Posts: 21,170 Threads: 581 Likes Received: 8,919 in 6,599 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 Ian has some interesting points to make as well in his video below including a possible collaboration between FatShark and DJI to try and marry some of the FPV tech together. Who knows. Everything is all just speculation at the moment. • |
