Personally, I kept everything at 100%. If you can fly the simulator, you will be able to fly the real thing. For your first flight, find yourself a large open field. When you lift off, don't baby it. Keep your craft high and make your turns. Landing is always the hard part. You don't have to land close to you. Just concentrate on putting the craft down gently. Good luck. Break an arm. Ha...

Can agree with what's above. Mixer is not really needed yet. As mentioned before, get some air, and work on your turning and banking. Make sure to have some visual landmarks so you can judge not only where you are pointing, but how your turning is going as well. I would also say do not land close to you. Not at least until you are a little better at it. Landing can get squirrely sometimes and it is not good to be close. I would recommend testing the failsafe switch a few times prior to taking off, just to verify. It takes some getting used to, but it is easy to get addicted, lol

PS. Is that electrical tape around your stack?

It is hard to judge which way you will learn better. My friend who is just starting took my advice. Left TX at 100%, hit the simulator hard. His first ever real flight, he flown my 5in quads on 4S and did great. No crashes. Did a bunch of power loops. Even went under some trees. You can decrease your rates if things are too sensitive and increase them when you get better.
