RC RATE, RATE AND RC CURVR
#1
Hello again,

I'm trying to understand the relationship between rc rate, rate and rc curve, I believe I understand "rate" but unsure about the other two.

Is rc curve what is called "expo" ?

Thanks

What firmware are we talking about and where do these specific terms come from?

I am using the KISS FC,

RC Rate, Rate and RC Curve are settings that are displayed along with the PID settings, I will try and paste a screen shot onto a reply................please stand by

In this link you can play with the different values: http://www.rcreviews.lt/kiss-rates

Rates will increase the rotation speed and is linear

rc rates will also increase the rotation speed and add some expo

RC curve is expo

Ah, I've never used the KISS flight controller, so I can't help specifically with that. The link that oyvinia posted in the previous message is very useful though. It shows clearly the relationship between all the three settings and shows the resulting control curve.

The way that curve looks defines how your quad will respond to your stick inputs and you'll find a similar curve and settings in other firmware. If you want me to explain how the shape of the curve actually affects the controls, just shout!

The kiss rates are similar to betaflight rates in theory, but feels slightly different:

Rates is rates
Rc rates is similar to super expo
Rc curve is the same as expo

What do you reckon? Is the KISS stuff worth the money?

I've stayed away from closed source stuff what with me being a coder for my day job.

I think kiss feels smoother than betaflight and prefer kiss over betaflight. When we are talking about differences, I really like how raceflight one feels also. It is very smooth, but also sharp. It is a bit hard to explain, but IMO, they both feel better than betaflight. I was a big betaflight fan untill I built a kiss quad

Thanks. I guess I'll have to give KISS a try on a future build then!

I won't use Raceflight though, no matter how good people say it is.

What is raceflight ? Is it software or hardware ?

Betaflight feel is VERY dependent on your settings, I tend to drop D setpoint weight to get that smoother feeling even before the maiden flight. But it still feels inconsistent between the builds. And its defaults change even more between releases.
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car
