Rampage 2023

Well it’s that time of the year again.. and again I won’t be going.. I hope things go off without a hitch and everyone has a great time!
I’m wondering if Fat Shark will be debuting a new digital video system again ? ?.  I will be curious as to the percentage of pilots with HDzero or walksnail systems.. and how well this will react with all those pilots together…
It’s hard to believe it has only been a year since walksnail dropped their new system..

Wouldn't it be nice if Walksnail (and every other manufacturer) would release products that work, don't have overheating issues, don't have black screen issues, did I mention work. Tongue

Hopefully if anyone releases something new it isn't some alpha version piece of crap that just makes everyones life harder. Wink

Too cynical?

Kinda…..I was just expressing how fast the new digital systems progressed in a short time. Yes, there will be growing pains.. but the “plus” column is longer than the “negative”…

For me on a $30 product maybe. But on a multi hundred dollar product, different ball game. If I am paying over a hundred it better be excellent and not like the crap microsoft release with every update. It should work 99% of the time to a basic level, even if the advanced features don't work. So no overheating, no black screens, no random shutdowns. That stuff should be ironed out in beta testing phase and if not there should be clear warnings on the packaging stating it might happen.

If you bought a new car and the brakes only worked when they didn't get hot, you would be unhappy. How is a digital VTX any different? They can both (possibly) kill or maim a person if they fail (indirectly).

I guess it all depends on whether or not you think that 18 firmware version releases in less than a year with things going backwards in the last few releases is progress or if it's an indication that the Walksnail developers aren't really sure what they are doing and how to actually get the best out of the Artosyn chipset. It would be nice if they actually compensated all the people who paid hundreds of dollars for their gear only to end up being free beta testers for them. It's good that we have competition in the digital space but progress just seems to be painfully slow and frustrating for users who have to roll the dice every time a new firmware update comes out. All development work and testing should be done way before a new product ever hits the shelves (or new firmware is released), unless it is heavily discounted along with a health warning, which the Walksnail gear wasn't.

A few of my buddies made it out.  Every year they badger me to go and every year I say no.  The whole "Fly with celebrity pilots" selling point turns me WAY off.  It's clique-y high school trash. There are pilots in Chicagoland who are way better than the "Big guys", they just dont have the followers.

“Flying with celebrity pilots” is the last reason for me to want to go… I’m looking at the bad ass setups to fly.. and if I got a quad “stuck”.. I wouldn’t have to jump a fence to retrieve it..parts on hand, TONS of brains to be picked! Getting to actually see first hand (not pics) how other builders execute…
The “late night” stuff is out of my system..but sitting outside next to a fire.. forces me to relax..

I guess we just have such a rich FPV community and so many spots to fly by me that the trek to Rampage loses its benefit.
