I have seen people strip the antenna 23.5mm end to 31.25mm and increased their range.
R-XSR range less than XM+??? |

What Voodoo said..... "Damn the torpedoes!!! Full speed ahead!!!" 05-Jul-2019, 10:20 PM I'm a little late on this reply but....it may help others. I only fly RXSR's and am very pleased with the performance. I regularly fly out past 500m. The video below is a routine test flight recorded today RSSI readout middle, right side. Distance from home arrow, 2nd row up, from bottom center One thing I do is change the active antenna lenght from the supplied 23mm to 32-33mm which is closer to a 1/4 wave and as a result it increases the range. I have been doing this on every rxsr and it works great with no problems, no failsafes. There is much discussion on the internet about the correct length of the Frsky antennas and i dont want to get involved that discussion. I'm just sayin'...this is what i do and here is the proof it works for me. Happy Flyin' 30-Aug-2019, 11:12 PM Just swapped from XM+ to R-XSR and XSR recievers. I'm seeing a massive drop in RSSI as well. Did anyone ever get to the bottom of the reason for this? Just ordered some R9 recievers as it was making me uncomfortable. 31-Aug-2019, 12:57 AM While I have experienced this drop as well, I am starting to think it is a thing of scaling and not an actual drop in range. I have flown out 750m with my RXSR and it stayed linked with no issue, but the LOW_SIG warning was pretty consistent. Flying to the same spot with my last XM+ RX equipped craft, it showed a better RSSI...but aside from a lack of telemetry really did not feel any different. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Addicted :) (05-Jul-2019, 10:20 PM)roger74 Wrote: One thing I do is change the active antenna lenght from the supplied 23mm to 32-33mm which is closer to a 1/4 wave and as a result I use brand new R-XSR and have the same RSSI problems. On 150-200m I get periodically RSSI warnings and even had a falesafe in this range. I checked the antennas and one is 19mm and one 22mm . This is definitely a sloppy job. I read this kind of problems at many forums. I also know the never ending discussion about the wrong antenna length at R-XSRs. And I also have XM+ with big ranges and no RSSI problems. And I know the guess that FrSky will know what they are doing. I have the impression, Frysky let manufacture at different outside companies and these are just sloppy. I have the feeling the XM+ comes from a different factory than the R-XSR. Companies always look for cheaper suppliers and the R-XSR is newer. Has anybody made similar experiences with antenna length like roger74? Using the 1/4 wave length of 32-33mm or other length? Does anybody know where to buy cheap antennas for the R-XSR to try? I think this ones do not fit the R-XSR, do they? https://www.banggood.com/10PCS-Frsky-2_4...rehouse=CN My anntena mounts can be seen on the picture. We have to figgure out the right length that not so many people have this issue again and again. Thanks for your help. 19-Oct-2019, 07:55 PM R- XSR takes IPEX4 connector like the one you linked. I would just buy from Amazon if you are in the States. $1 more but you will get it in two days. https://www.amazon.com/10PCS-100mm-Recei...4633&psc=1 (19-Oct-2019, 07:55 PM)voodoo614 Wrote: R- XSR takes IPEX4 connector like the one you linked. It's quite difficult to find the right connector. Most antennas sold in Amazon and eBay do not fit. IPEX sells 28 similar different connectors. Have a look: https://www.i-pex.com/Products/advanced_..._sign=%3E= Many China sellers just write IPEX and people think it will fit, but mostly it does not. Did you try different antenna lengths? UPDATE: I changed the antennas for the R-XSR from the one it came with to new ones with 150mm lengs and 32mm active length. Actually they came with 33mm active length but I shorted them to 32mm (2.4GHz). I placed the antennas even further away from the frame. but the result is non. Maybe 1-2 digits more in RSSI but this is hard to say due to slightly different environment conditions. Well the new antennas are nicer because they are longer and more easy to fix, but the result is not very much better. |
