QX100 plus FlySky RX?
#1
Everyone in my house runs Turnigy Evolution TX. We all want QX100's which only come with integrated DSM. Anyone know if the FC will allow us to add a FlySky (ppm/ibus/sbus) RX and disable or just not use the integrated RX?

I know there are other FC's with integrated FlySky RX, but they take weeks to ship, whereas I can go pickup a QX100 and a micro FlySky RX locally.

Where are you located? States? Europe?
You could attached external PPM receivers to the old scisky ... but I wouldn't put it in the "easy mod" category.

But doesn't the Eachine QX100 come with the newer SciSky?
The image below seems to imply that board can support an external serial RX.

I ASSUME that means you could use this: https://www.amazon.com/Crazepony-Flysky-...sky+FS-A8S

But I'll be honest ... I don't really know.
There must be other options though.. some place near you carries the QX100?? What magical place is this? The QX90 is based on a different board that doesn't have built in rx's, that supports FlySky.

Why not just buy it from banggood with expedited shipping?

That was my thought as well. The QX90/95 cameras are all massively flawed, and the frames are heavier. The QX100 is supposedly much zippier and I've heard the camera got fixed. Still considering grabbing a 95, but same deal there, no one local carries them with a Flysky receiver so I'd be waiting weeks to get it and we're trying to find something we can mess with BEFORE our X220's show up and we end up killing each other with big drones.

So like, yea, looking at that pinout, it seems intuitive that I could just hook up my FlySky PPM to the FC and should be good to go, but as I have zero experience with RC manufacturers, I don't know what to expect.

OH gawd - definitely get something before that stuff comes in.
I started with 220 sized quads ... it wasn't a smart move. But then again. I don't have a lot of restraint.
ultimately ended up dialing back to brushed builds. still managed to draw blood with those Smile

Oh, I know it now!
The first of the X220's came in last night (one of the roomies). We're having lots of fun, but something ain't right. Maybe someone can tell me why (totally off topic for the OP).

We're using those Turnigy Evolution controllers and something we noticed after binding RX was that the center value for the gimbals is 1520 instead of 1500. In CleanFlight, you see this number under receiver config, but it didn't mean anything to us as we didn't know 1500 was the default center position. Opened in BetaFlight, which shows you a preview of what the quad is being controlled to do, and of course it's constantly rolling on all 3 axis with all controls centered. Mouse (roomie) tried compensating by trimming at the TX and we took it out for a test flight. My other roomie and I had a bet on how long till Mouse crashed. He said 3 minutes outside, 30 seconds indoors. I said 2:59 and 29s. I won 20 props! Mouse crashed in under 1 second outside.

BUT, we figured that was because the RC center was 1500 but the gimbals were 1520, so we set the RC center value to 1520, but in BF, it still shows the quad rolling on all 3 axis. I figured maybe BF's preview just didn't account for the RC center value and we decided (cause everything LOOKS right) to try it again. Same deal. He put it in Angle mode, lift off, hovered for a few seconds just fine, then he tried to do a quick punch and it rolled straight hard left and into the ground again. Seems no matter what he does, if he's in any leveling mode, it wants to bank hard left and pitch back. Read LOTS about this sorta thing happening but all the posts are from 2014 and 2015, and no consistent way to resolve it. He hasn't tried in acro, but I strongly suspect acro will respond correctly.

But, we don't know if he broke the stock settings. He opened it in clean flight and we noticed that some settings simply refused to apply (like setting serial RX/SBUS wouldn't save, so we opened it in BF and it saved fine). We also can't seem to get into bootload mode to reflash firmware. Short out the pins, FC powers up and light stays solid as it's supposed to. Can't connect to the FC with BF or CF, so I assume it's in bootload, but I don't see any STM32 dev pop up and flashing of course fails. Not sure if something is not right on his FC, or if we're just missing something obvious?

That said, I work for an engineering company who deal in exactly the same chips found in the FC. STM32 is standard gear for us and we play with Microchip/SiLabs stuff all day, so I find it very odd that I'm having zero luck flashing firmware. Thoughts on the level mode crash/burn as well as the flashing firmware issue?

Hey blistovmhz, CesiumSalami is quite regular here and very helpful. but if you post a thread for help in the 'brushless mini' section you might bring your problem to the attention of some others who could help too... Don't give up hope!

Thanks. Figured it all out though.
Adding an RX to the qx100 would've ended up being retarded. Gave up and bought some KingKong Smart100s. Essentially the same setup but they have pins for RX. Stock firmware and setup was horrendously bad, but got it all dialed in now. Now just waiting for a box of replacement motors as we keep blowing them up.
The x220 that was having trouble flying was also a config issue. Not sure if my roomie put the FC in backwards from stock or what, but the axis were all off by 90*. Derp.
Flashing firmware... no idea. Windows was having an issue with it. Finally gave up and just plugged it into one of my Linux boxes where it just worked with zero fucking around.

PS those kingkongs look great - 65mm props they come with are really good for this size. Like any brushed 8mm - might be worth picking up a few extra motors because they get toasted pretty fast.

Yea, I was surprised at how much better paired the stock 65mm props were, compared to anything else I've found. Flew a few cells on some (very expensive) 60's before switching back. Stock props nearly doubled flight time and max thrust. Was getting all pissed because I could barely get the thing to flip with the new props. Switched back over and it's effortless.
New motors should be here tomorrow. Luckily, Amazon carries a few things (like motors and 4s batteries), because my big order from BG got split into 10 or so orders and half the stuff that said it shipped a week ago, apparently was ... not actually put into the boxes... ShittyWall!

Dunno if this is helpful - but I came across this from Joshua Bardwell re: the Wizard 220 - might be some useful stuff. He's got a lot of useful information ....

Heh. It MAY be helpful one day. At this point I have no idea if my X220's have even shipped. BG is fucking me around. ie: one order that contained an X220, charger, and voltage checker, shipped on the 11th. On the 15th it was apparently in the US and had cleared customs according to 17track, but on the 18th, BG silently (without informing me) canceled the X220 from the order...? The order ended up containing a voltage checker. Nothing else. The rest of the orders were all like that. According to tracking, the one that the OTHER X220 is supposed to be in, hasn't left China yet and CP hasn't actually received it. Either BG is lying (which I know they do now), or CP is mistaken and lost my package. I now own 2 of everything I need to fly, and zero quads. Damnit.

UGH. Fricken banggood.
FWIW - I've had a few packages from BG go missing, get delivered to the wrong address, get rejected by the post office, etc .. but in all cases the situation did get cleared up.  In fact, it had nothing to do with BG most of the time and it was the fault of the USPS.

Their system is so jacked though - I just ordered some props 'n stuff last wednesday - I just mounted them on my quad yesterday??? but before THANKSGIVING (Nov.24!) I placed an order that was delivered like a week ago. Same shipping speed, both shipped the day after I ordered.

It's so annoying.  In less upbeat news, I was just reading a post about a guy who ordered like an xt60 connector and got a ...... Wizard X220 instead  Confused
