Hobby King recently released a micro quad frame called the quanum WISP. I was so excited to find out and I bought 3 right away. I thought to myself micro quad frames were finally widely available at an affordable price, but I was wrong.
This frame is a bit disappointing! You can tell they are trying to save cost by using cheap materials.
Not only it's pretty heavy at 11.4g (although I knew that before purchase), the frame also flexes a lot. It uses metal standoffs, comes with a 1mm carbon fibre bottom plate (not the best carbon i have used) and 2 pieces of heavy fibre glass top plates (weights 3.7g!!). I like the design, it's pretty strong, but really they should have avoid using crappy quality that is easy to break and weights a ton.
The most annoying thing is the motor grommets which appears to be low quality and does not fit well in the frame motor mounts, very sloppy. When you have the motors mounted they can move a around by shaking the frame. I don't see the quad flying well given this problem. Hobbyking should really supply some better grommets that actually fit!
However if you already bought this frame and insist in using this frame, here are things that you could try (or I have tried):
- Someone suggested to put 1mm heatshrink on the arms where the grommets go in, but that didn't work well for me.
- Electrical tape worked okay, but it's really difficult to shove the motor into the grommet with the tape on. It took about 2.5 wraps on the motor to get a decent fit. Wrap the tape so it covers the entire motor and hangs over the ends of the motor a little. A little moisture helps.
- It's also a good idea to epoxy the bottom plate of the motor on so you don*t pop it off in a crash.
- Hot glue the grommets to the frame, but the downside is weight! (hot glue weights a ton) And i don't think that would last long before it comes loose.
- I also tried taping the grommets to the arms... nope, also failed

But really, I don't recommend it.
