Quadcopter with too much thrust
#1
I have recently build my first Naze32 250 quad as follows:

EMAX Carbon Fibre 250 Sized Frame
DYS 1806 2300kv Brushless Motors
EMAX 12A ESC's - BLHeli
5" x 3" props
4S Lipo

I have MIN_THROTTLE set at 1200 as this is the lowest value at which all 4 props spin up.  The trouble I have is that it generates too much thrust.  As soon as the props spin up the quadcopter starts to lift off.  I have tried calibrating the ESCs via the Naze32, but that does not seem to help.  Are there any other suggestions, or should I drop to a 3S lipo?

Thanks

What firmware are you using? I had a similar problem on Betaflight.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1

Sounds like you might need to go into BLHeliSuite and adjust the PPM values

Manually set them to 1020 and 1960 see if that's better?

I am using the latest CleanFlight firmware.  Did a firmware change solve your issue?

Thanks Oscar.  I cant seem to connect to BLHeliSuite via Cleanflight.  I get

BLB Connect to ESC: FAILED
BLHeli Bootloader interface Open COM4 @19200 OK
Waiting for Device: FAILED
Close COM4 OK

I am hoping this is down to a Cleanflight issue.  I will try and setup my Arduino to connect to each ESC via 1-wire. Failing that, I am guessing the ESCs don't have a bootloader installed, just the BLHeli firmware.  I presume the bootloader is required to connect via BLHeliSuite?

Upgrading to the latest CleanFlight solved the issue for me, so it might be worth looking at your ESCs.

I have tried recalibrating the ESCs a couple of times with the latest Cleanflight firmware.  Things seem to have improved as hover is now at around 20% throttle.  With some adjustments to the throttle curve it flies reasonably well and I can at least control decent.

At least I know its powerful enough for when I get round to adding FPV Tongue

Thanks for the pointers!

Mine is around 20% as well, I'm glad that it's working now.
