UPDATE - QAV210 Charpu Upgrade - Recommendations....
#1
Hi All,

Since building the Chameleon, my old rig has been gathering dust.  I really love the Charpu frame - it's tough as nails. Currently fitted with Naze32, 2204/2300 motors, DYS 20A Blheli.  The motors are pretty much knackered.  Looking on getting it back in the air for not so much money....

I've got 4x Armattan 20A Dshot ESCs and am looking for motor recommendations.  BG has 4x RS2205 for £35 - are these any good?  I've got the RS2306/2400 on the Chameleon and I love them.

I will upgrade the FC - either taking the BFF3 out the Chameleon when the F4 is available, or might go for something like the Matek405, or maybe even the BFF3 clone from BG as I don't want to muck about with inverted signal mods etc.

Thought and recommendations?

Many thanks,
hendrixhughes

If you want to really save bucks, I like these Racerstar 2403s. https://www.banggood.com/4X-Racerstar-Ra...72092.html
Unusual size, but I have them on a SpaceOne 210 and love 'em.

The RS2205 motors are great and they'll fit in the 20A power budget of your ESCs.

Go for an F4 based flight controller. The extra horsepower really is needed if you want to take advantage of new features in Betaflight 3.2 like the dynamic notch filter. The Holybro Kakute F4 AIO will handle both S.BUS and SmartPort telemetry without having to hack your receiver.

I have had good experience with aokfly 2205 2500kv. They work fine with 20A escs as well. The aokfly motors are more powerful, tougher and have better bearings than the racerstar motors

Oh, I was mistakenly thinking that RS2205 was referring to the EMax RS2205 motors.

If you actually mean the Racerstar 2205 motors hendrixhughes, well... they're £35. If you're lucky, you'll get four balanced motors that deliver unremarkable performance and last a season. If you're unlucky, you'll end up buying other motors anyway.

I'd go with oyvinla's suggestion or some RCX SE2205 2400kv from MyRCMart.

I think you are right unseen. I might have misread it myself. I thought he was thinking about the racerstar, but it looks like he was referring to emax, yes. My bad :p. I have no experience with emax so can't say anything, but 35£ doesn't sound too bad. They are probably better than the racerstar anyway

The EMax RS2205 are actually £40 for a set of four at the moment on Banggood. For a quality motor with N52 magnets and the EMax 'cooling' bell design, that's a great deal.

The improved RS2205S versions, with the hollow shaft, arc magnets, 0.15mm stator laminations and 0.1mm air gap are a bit more expensive at £56 for four motors, but still a great deal for some really good motors. QuadMcFly was very impressed when he tested them. MiniQuadTestBench - RS2205S 2300kv

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses.  Yes it was the EMAX RS2205 I was looking at.  They've got a set of Eachine VTail motors which apparently are the RS2205 in different packaging and without spare clips etc.  Coloured wires too.  £35 or thereabouts.  I was considering the Racerstar but I believe the EMAX will be a better buy

That's a real bargain for four RS2205 motors!

So the motors turned up - great value I reckon just need to wait for the rain to stop so I can get a maiden flight sorted.  I ordered a Betaflight F4 with the intention of swapping out the Betaflight F3 in my Chameleon, but to be honest the Chameleon is flying so well I just couldn't bring myself to ripping it apart.  If it ain't broke....

So my budget (re) build as follows:

QAV210 Charpu
EMAX RS2205/2300
Armattan 20A Dshot ESC
Betaflight F4
FrSky XM+
RC Swift
Eachine 25/200/600 VTX

I guess the only non budget part is the FC lol
