QAV-X 4mm Build
#1
[Image: pZzvjb5l.jpg]just got my hands on one of these. I haven't seen anything about it on the forum and I'm pretty sure people are going to be curious about it so I've decided to do a build log on it. and some flight video when I'm done.

ok I decided to put my KISS set up on this QAV-X instead of my QAV-R because I already have a QAV-R. this is what it looks like so far with the ESCs and motors mounted.

after mounting and soldering my ESCs and motors I installed and soldered my FC

there isn't a lot of room on this quad so I have to stack my receiver on top of the FC and hold it down with some double sided tape.

since I don't like to fiddle around with dip switches and the way this frame is laid out its going to be very difficult to access any kind of button to change channels so I went with the new ubad la forge vtx, which used an IR remote to change bands and channels.

Good you're taking your time with this build - looks very clean. I don't know about KISS, but I remember Naze32 had problems if it had 5v connected from multiple ESCs.

Great tip about the VRX IR remote - I have to take a look at this.

KISS ESCs don't output 5v like normal ESCs do. It has SIGNAL, TELEMTERY, GND!
Great going btw! Looks clean! Big Grin

kiss has a 5v bec on it, so it can be powered directly from the battery, it also provides power for the receiver. this is my first kiss build but everything is very straight forward.

thanks Himadri, I don't know how the esc telemetry works, or if I was even going to need it, but I figured what the hell might as well hook it up, if I use it great, if not well at least it's there.

I see, now I recall, that those ESCs don't come with wiring, so I guess you just used a random servo cable Smile

yah I picked up about a foot of it from the hobby shop. I went with a servo wire cause it's soft and flexible. this way I can run it sandwiched in between the pdb and flight controller so it looks cleaner.

so I'm done with the build. the fusulodge is a little tight but workable.

I'm not sure about the FPV camera mount. it looks as if I crash or clip a brach that there's very little to no protection.

here is a video of a test hover. I didn't get any FPV flight video cause like I said this was my very first KISS build so I ended up setting my rates to high. so instead of chancing it I just did a LOS test hover.

That looks neat, FPV cam looks like it sticks out a bit far..ready for a smacking. Test flight looks ok , look forward to a full video when you are all done.

lol yah, I didn't expect it to be that fast. I'm going to hit a bigger field right now and try to do some tuning. it feels like there's another gear, I was only at about 75% throttle.
