Preventing a short by using epoxy modification??
#1
One thing I don’t like about Orqa or anything else that uses micro hdmi cables and HDZero uses mini hdmi.
I have looked and looked for micro to mini hdmi connectors with right angle ends and I haven’t found anything.

I did find a ribbon cable and it works but there’s exposed pads and I don’t want to short them out from touching with fingers or skin.
Unfortunately I don’t think a micro hdmi can be made with a right angle connector or I haven’t seen one.

My plan is to cover the area with 5 minute epoxy but I thought I would ask first if it’s got any conduits in it or if there’s a better insulator.I will also use electric tape to tape ribbon to surface of goggles to prevent ribbon from movements.
Silicone would likely work too and add more flexibility.

Here’s a picture of the exposed pads or solder pins of what I need to insulate and any advice would be appreciated.
Epoxy over time will likely crack over time and might be too brittle so maybe silicone is the way to go.
There’s also shoe goo,E6000 and there’s likely many more that will work.

Normal epoxy isn't conductive so it will be fine. Even J-B Weld which looks metal in appearance isn't conductive. E6000 is also considered to be an electrical insulator so that would be fine too.

But maybe a better option would be to just apply some silicone conformal coating like people apply to their flight electronics.

Solder mask would work as well.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

I have two of the hdmi micro to mini hdmi ribbon connectors.
I’m trying E6000 and it’s curing at the moment. It sets up or forms a nice skin fairly quickly.
Epoxy would work too but it’s a bit more brittle so I tried E6000 first.
My other straight cable was starting to cause hdmi loss when I adjusted goggles but the straight plugs stuck out so far they were impossible to not touch.

I like the way the ribbon cable stays out of harms way much better than the other cable with straight plug in connectors.
It doesn’t look the best but the last straight plugged cable was getting worn out by getting bumped or touched each time goggles were moved, put on/off or adjusted.Hdmi connections just don’t last if moved too much.
The straight cable was working but I was getting lost hdmi signal if I touched the plug when adjusting goggles at times.

Hopefully when I put on goggles or make adjustments the ribbon doesn’t get moved or touched at all.

Here’s a few pictures of final modification and there’s a small piece of black electric tape keeping ribbon from moving around that likely can’t be seen.

It works better than I was expecting.
I can barely feel the palm of my hand touch the barrel connector and it in a way covers up the hdmi connection.
This last picture shows the barrel connector in a way keeping hands from bumping hdmi connection which is what I was hoping for.

I have the same ribbon connectors. Nice solution. I probably would have just conformal coated then heat shrinked it like I do receivers. But hey, whatever works!
