Powering Cameras from balance lead - Random YT Vid
#1
Came across this video tonight and I think it's kind of interesting and possibly useful.  Maybe someone will find a use for it.

https://youtu.be/bPxWh_FXG94?t=1

The video owner decided to make it impossible to embed, so it won't embed.

If you're feeling lazy or just don't have the spare parts, Runcam will sell you pretty much exactly the same thing:

The ground is for dead people.

Dang. I thought those were common as I get them as extras sometimes. I’m not good enough to film myself so I have no need but always thought they were a neat idea. If I flew more than the batteries in my GoPro lasted, and the pack lasting. If those thumb cams from runcam, worked better maybe.

Just a small tip in case you buy these adapter cables premade.
Hook up just the cam to the lipo and let it drain for a while just from the camera. Then measure all the cells (via lipo checker or your balanced charger) and make sure all cells have been drained roughly equal.
My first (and only prebuild since then) was sucking the life out of just one cell and left the others untouched so wrong wired.
Super dangerous !!! It might go unnoticed as the main drain is a balanced drain from the quad.

Since then only made myself, typicaly with a small bec as a buffer/stable voltage source inbetween lipo and cam.

I save all my flights from DVR, not because I am particularly good, but because it allows me to analyse my flights and see problems. Like I turn left far more than right, I always roll left.  So I have an issue with turning or doing anything to the right, but I am working on it. Tongue

The difference to me a Thumb Pro or similar camera would make, is clarity.  I also post some of my flights to YT and Vimeo and having a 1080p video would be much nicer that a 480p.

For me the main reason whether to get an action cam isn't how good you are, it's the cost and whether you can afford one.  If you want a cheaper alternative, look at the Hawkeye range.  They do a 4k Thumb cam for half the price of the Runcam offering and also do a split cam for roughly the same price (analog view while flying, but outputs up to 4k to an sd card, like the Runcam Split).

I use my goggle footage as well for this. And with O3 I’m finding less and less need for the extra weight a GoPro would add. Even though I have a few of them.
