Piezo Buzzer

Hey Folks,

Maybe someone here can explain this one.  I already bought a few of these from Banggood.

http://www.banggood.com/DC-1-30V-2-Pins-...78657.html

There must be something not working on my end.  If you read through the comments, other people ordered the same product and it's also not working for them.  Can anyone explain why this is not working on our flight controllers?

The only thing I can pick out is that it's a "passive" buzzer instead of an "active" buzzer

Ok I guess I found the answer for this.

Seems like passive buzzers will not work on naze/flip/skyline32.  Only active buzzers work

Normally this means that you have to apply an oszillating current to the buzzer to sound.

Active speakers just need +5V (or +3.3 etc) and vibrate on their own (actively doing it). That's how the buzzer for an FC has to be.
A passive buzzer is just like a speaker. If you put +5V on it the membrane (think of a real speaker) will push forward and stay there ... so you won't hear a sound.
So you have to apply a PWM power signal.

Like someone in the comments (on BG) said it's loudest at 3,9kHz so this frequency is ideal.

Thanks! I spent 10 minutes today looking for a quad in semi-high grass today. A buzzer would have been nice  Big Grin
