PID Tuning Guide
#1
I published this article back in 2013... And it's received 250,000 views since!

https://oscarliang.com/quadcopter-pid-explained-tuning/

However it was getting a bit old, so Tom and I spent a few days updating it. This time we try to make it as easy to understand as possible, with simple instructions on how to tune each setting in the PID tab, including Setpoint Weight and Transition.

It's a 3000-word read... but I hope you enjoy it and find it useful. Smile

Let me know if you have any question or comment.

This is something I have not touched yet, so will definitely give it a read, thanks Oscar.

I wanted to dive into a bit of tuning last weekend, but after installing the new X_RACERSPI my "propwash jiggle" just magically disappeared. Not even knowing where to begin, your guide will definitely be of use.

Thanks Oscar. I've built a few quads now but have never tuned them. I've touch d the pids here and there but have never sat down with a few packs and actually tuned. Understood your article perfectly and as soon as I get home from work I'm getting to work on at least one of my quads today. For my 3" tho I know I need to add a switch to change the rates for 3s and one for 4s.

You know you can set up a profile triggered by cell count and add your preferred rates to that profile. I have my 4s quads set up to limit throttle output automatically when i attach a 6s lipo.
