PID changes with weight added?
#1
I had been tuning my 250 without FPV gear on it (No Cam, VTX, MinimOSD) and now that I have added it, the PID progess I have made seems to be pointless. It's oscillating in the air, and seems to act totally different again. Anyone here fly with and without the gear and noticed a difference? I guess the main question is will the PID loop be affected by weight addition? I am guessing that it would be affected.

With the added weight comes added ineria and therefore it is probably going to require a bit of a change in the forces applied to maintain the same feel and performance.
Personally I am still getting the hang of tuning also, so hopefully someone can correct me here if I am off target, but I would maybe start by raising D slightly to help slow down and stop that extra weight, particularly on the pitch axis due to the weight being added front and rear. (Normally. I am unfamiliar with your specific build)

It's not the weight, it's the change of COG that requires PID adjustment to make it right.
When you add extra weight, check if the COG is centred. Normally you don't need to change PID too much if it is.

From your signature you said you are using Cleanflight, move over to Betaflight it's better in performance Smile

upload some footage with your CLI settings if you want help with PID tuning Smile that would be a good start

Edit: just saw your post in tuning clinic i will reply there as well.

Okay, I may have to give BF a try as well... I am taking some more flights and making sure that my gyro isn't taking to much shock now... was tons of high frequency spikes in D and P as well as in the Gyro once I added this FPV gear... wondering if there is a change in the performance due to over-current on the 5v or if the weight has thrown off COG.. will have to string it back up.

Edit: I am seeing spikes in RC Command as well... wonder if that could be an issue with voltage.
