Generally a jack of all trades but specialise in wiring, in particular integration of systems - like modern engine management into old cars that kind of thing... Anyway here's what we have underway at the moment (customer car)... It's a Birkin Sports car kit from South Africa, fitted with a brand new 2.0L Ford Duratec motor built by OMEX Technology in the U.K. and shipped to Australia where we're doing the build. Has full carbon fiber and leather interior etc etc Should tip the scales at 600kg with over 200hp... May be a little quick Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 Holy hell batman! Should handle like a dream too! My best bud's father-in-law used to be a Lotus mechanic and even raced the 'super 7' a couple of times, I have to tell him about this... Your power to weight ratio is INSANE, my prayers go with to the owner and his family! P.S, I love the Carbon fiber and LEATHER interior, sounds like a combination that you would find at an S&M club run by 'Spyker!' The engine bay is pretty much complete now. I have to finish modifying the ECU wiring at the back of the head and then it can finally be called done. My brief was to jam as much technology and smarts into the car without compromising the raw 1960's look, so all the wiring for the injection system is tucked away and run under the frame etc. We have a heater fitted along with oil cooler (water:oil) which took a chunk of plumbing to incorporate without making the engine bay appear to be hose city. We've added a bunch of carbon throughout the engine bay. The custom fuse and junction cover, plug-valley cover and this retainer for the hydraulic reservoirs. A lot of brackets are also done in carbon as well. The dash combines old and new ideas - the classic gauges include Oil Temperature and Pressure, Water Temperature, Fuel, Speedometer and Tacho. The Ecliptech P2+ acts as a progressive shift light, battery monitor, Oil Pressure Alarm and full bi-directional Ammeter. We've also swapped to bright yellow seatbelt webbing (to contrast the interior) and the body panels are currently out being painted. My brief for the wiring was to make the layout as minimalist as possible, with a 1960's feel (hence cloth tape but minimal evidence of EFI) We also built out this massive removable cover over the chassis fusebox and main junction area about the bell housing. It's over half the chassis wide! Under it is the junctions between Engine Management and Chassis wiring. I also hide the barometric pressure sensor under here (for altitude compensation). Just kidding, this is coming on amazingly, I can't wait to see it finished! I just remembered a story from another mechanic buddy of mine, said he put a V6 in the back of a beach buggy (not dissimilar to Clarkson in the 'Grand Tour' Namibia episode!) after finishing it they drove to the bar to show it off, when they left the bar (4 people in it, 2 on the back) he wheelied out of the carpark straight across 2 lane's into the wall opposite, right in front of the local traffic cop! Windless fields and smokeless builds Posts: 347 Threads: 26 Likes Received: 354 in 189 posts Likes Given: 8 Joined: Jun 2016 Reputation: 13 Long time between updates - see the ECU pooped itself way back and despite the supplier (in the UK) doing the right thing the replacement never worked since. Somewhat frustrating as we've spent the past 4 months in e-mail communication and carrying out the various tests etc. Anyway after 4 months we got told to move a jumper on the main board of the ECU... It's an absolute mess (running a spare engine loom) now and I need spend quite a few hours redoing all the engine bay wiring so that it's all hidden etc. Posts: 347 Threads: 26 Likes Received: 354 in 189 posts Likes Given: 8 Joined: Jun 2016 Reputation: 13 Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 So Awesome!!
