One ESC is lagging
#1
Today, I took my 6 inch quad out of retirement because a friend wanted something a little slower to fly for the first time.  FC is Omnibus F3, Emax ESC with BLHeil 14.7 firmware and Emax MT 2204 motors. The quad was working fine 6-7 months ago when I last flew it. Today, motor 4 spins slower than the rest.  I swap motor and it does the same thing.  ESC is likely bad.  My question, what would cause the ESC to spin the motor slower?  I tested all motors with configurator, and all motors spins up fine.  Motor 4 does sound a little different though.  Before everyone tells me to calibrate ESC, Accelerometer, reflash ESC, are my props on the correct way etc, I pretty much done all the basic things.

One thing that can make performance worse over time is soldering. maybe try redoing the soldering on that ESC?
Also is it flyable? If it is then probably wouldn't be too much of a problem for slow flyers?

Not flyable. Any motor that is attached to that esc just spins slower.

Have you tried swapping the ESC on the slow motor with one of the others just to verify it IS the ESC and not something in your FC?

I have not swap ESC. That was the next thing. I don't fly this quad so it is on the back burner. It was more of an inquisitive question. If it turns out to be the FC, then what in the FC that would cause one motor to be slower?

Aside from perhaps a bad solider joint where the control leads from the ESC solider to the board (or to the ESC itself), I have no idea.  Could be a  bunch of things I suppose.  I doubt this would do any good, but if you do trace it down to the FC, I suppose you could try re flashing.  Sorry I can't be of more help. Sad

I just wanted to give an update with the current situation. I solve the problem of one ESC lagging. It turned out not to be the motor, the ESC or the FC. Just human stupidity.

I went through swapping ESC, same issue. So I thought FC. I remapped motor 4 to different pin. Same problem. Acro, angle or horizon, same. Then it hit me, is my mechanical trims not centered. Guess what, it was the trims. Why would my trim be off? Well, on the Turnigy X9R Pro, to enter bootloader mode or S.Port flash mode, you have to hold the trim on boot-up. I have been flashing XSR firmware for F.Port. I forgot to recenter trim after I am done. I guess I learn something today.

I always hate it when I do something like that but it feels good to know you probably wont make that mistake again.  Glad you found the problem! Smile
