How much does all of that weigh together with the two batteries?

Well, I really don't know the exact weight.  I'm only using 1 battery at a time and I've never totalled up the weight.  Lets see.........time to get out the scales and run the numbers.............

Right now it's 928g.    When gimbal and FPV kit get here will be adding another 177g and that includes another 10g for the larger 1147 props.

Thanks..........needed to do that and get my spreadsheet setup...........but haven't done it, been having to much fun setting up and flying............ Thinking

Wow! Is that 928g including one battery?

If so, that's an impressively light build and explains how it's possible to get the Frankendrone in the air on only 3S power!

Yeah, Unseen, that includes the battery.  I'm trying to keep the weight to less then 1.5kg so I can keep using the 3s batteries I got.  Mainly because of economics.  Those are 7000mah batts that I got brand new, delivered to my door for $22 and change and I got 2 more coming.

Very impressive, although I'm not quite sure how that all adds up...

The frame and landing gear is about 450g, the four ESCs about 80g, the four motors another 220g, the APM + GPS + telemetry radio is another 50g at least, 20g for the propellers. That gets me up to 820g and doesn't include the weight of wires and other stuff. I still haven't added the 380g that the Hubsan 7000mA/h battery weighs.

Let me run the number again................it wouldn't be the first time I made a math mistake.............

You're right........run the numbers again and it comes to 1298g.  And with the add-ons that I have coming, FPV Tx and camera, 2-axis camera gimbal, upgrade to a Beerotor Antenna for the FPV tx and the larger 1147 props gets me to 1485g.  Does not include the weight of the wires.  But with the wires should get me my 1.5kg.

edit to add: Hey thanks for the kick in the ass to get this listing and weights done. Hell, I even got out my old postal scale so I can take it to the shop with me tomorrow and get an actually honest weight!!! It's been a problem for 50+ years that I get so involved with my hotrodding that I forget to record the data............

Now that sounds much more like the weight I'd expect! Smile

Looking at how your setup will perform, you're right on the edge of the minimum safe power with your current configuration and some of the fun you were having in flight may well be partly due to the lack of power.

You'll find the 11x4.7 props a much better match on 3S, even with the extra 200g that you plan to add to it. They will at least take your current power to weight ratio of 2:1 up to a slightly more respectable 2.1:1. It should be capable of hovering for around 20 minutes.

That's about what I've been working towards from the start.  I had a pair of CF1047 props and without the camera and holder and hooks could lift  and hold at 10ft(eyeball measured) for 22 minutes...........at landing my battery was down to 11.0 when I disarmed the motors.  The main purpose of this is "proof of concept" for another build.......both for the machine and for my own abilities.   I'm a ways away from starting parts acquisition, but have started spec'ing out for my next build which will be a hex frame built from scratch...........

It would be nice to provide the approximate total cost of this build in the first post. I'm considering building/buying something for aerial filming and photography as well. And honestly this build looks interesting, but I'm not that patient to search the price of every single component from the list and calculating total price Smile It would be nice to know straight ahead if this build is about i.e. 200, 500 or 1000 USD  Wink

Thanks.

Thanks.

The initial barebones build with Tx and Rx came in at just under $200.  With upgrades and addons it's now just over $600.......

Do you mean $200 just for frame and RX+TX or for everything needed to get in the air (frame+FC+ESCs+motors etc.) except the gimbal, FPV gear and camera?

For everything to get it in that air.   It was a kit that I got for $135.   The Tx/Rx was $50.  The other $15 was for solder, heatshrinks etc.........Oh, sorry........my 3S/7000mah battery was $22.............so $222 and it was flying.........

Wow, so that got my attention now. Thanks! I think I'll look for these components in the future. Any recommendations what to change straight ahead from the components mentioned in your first post? Or any thoughts about what wasn't good choice and why? Or is it OK just like that and then I get only the camera and gimbal and it's ready to go as a best option? Thank you.
