Not new to RC, but new to FPV
#1
Hey guys,

Just getting started with this FPV craze going on, but I've been into RC stuff going on 40 years, mostly racing RC offroad cars.

Built my first quad several years ago when DJI first came out with the F330, F450 and F550 line, but kinda got bored with it and put it on the shelf.

Been watching this FPV stuff with interest and finally dove in a few months back and built one to start out with.

Fossils Stuff Gravity 280 frame, Naze32, CC3D PDB, Little Bee spring 20 amp esc's, EMAX 1500kv motors.  Just the basics right now and I wanted a very docile flying machine to start out with.  Only been flying LOS currently but have been gathering what I need to mount a camera.

Just picked up a Runcam Swift Mini camera and ImmersionRC Tramp HV VTX(need to select an antenna).

Only thing left to buy is some goggles, haven't decided which ones yet.

Anyway, that's it for now, been looking for a good forum for info on this stuff and looks like this could be the place!

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike - good name! Smile

Welcome to the forum. There's all the information and help you need here.

Which goggles? The best you can afford.
I swear by the Pagoda antennas. If you get them from a reputable supplier so that they are assembled correctly, they are superb.

Hey Mike, You are in the right place for an active, friendly forum with a wealth of knowledge and experience to call upon.

A couple of important questions re. goggles.
Do you wear glasses? Some manufacturers make prescription lenses for their goggles, most goggles will not fit over a pair of glasses.

Will your quad be carrying a Go-Pro, or similar HD action camera? If not you may consider purchasing goggles with a DVR, so you can record your flights. DVR footage captured on goggles, will record interference between the VTX and VRX, so it isn't great quality, but if you loose your model, it's really handy to have footage that you can look at to narrow down the search area.

Another option if you don't want to drag the extra weight of a Go-Pro around, you could consider adding an after market DVR to your on-board FPV setup.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Unseen - I looked up pagoda antennas, lots of people seem to make them, any recommended manufacturer?

Tom BD Bad - Yes, I do wear glasses, but I'm farsighted which I think makes a difference.  I've tried on Fatsharks and Aomways without my glasses and was surprised that I could see fine.  And the Aomways have a DVR built in.

My biggest worry is the fact that I do get dizzy after a very short time looking through goggles.  I'm hoping over time you get used to that.  I've also read that a smaller FOV helps with dizziness but not sure if that is true.

The designer has a list of manufacturers on his site, along with comments about them. See: http://www.maartenbaert.be/quadcopters/a...a-antenna/
