I have caught my share of Northern Pike, but not in Ohio waters.
Yesterday was very hot and nowhere near ideal fishing conditions. So we found a shaded deep spot of the Great Miami River and set out some lines.
My daughters 8th birthday is this weekend, and has recently graduated from her kiddy push-button pole to a real open faced spinning reel and 6ft pole. Dad is not selfish and helped place her bait in the best spot there. She asked if she can make a small bait adjustment. Next thing I notice she got quiet and I see her pole with a healthy bend. I asked "you got one?" her reply "YES AND ITS HUGE!" all kinds of nervous excitement. With only verbal guidance, followed like a pro I might add, and help lifting onto the bank, this was all her!
Aprox. 24 inches
