No Stick Input ELRS Jumper Pro - ELRS Light RX - F405 Betaflight 2-4s
#1
EDIT: It now worked, build everything together and now its not working anymore..
Where could be the problem when RSSI works and nothing else?
Hey Guys

Normally I'm a passive reader but now I also have to present a problem which holds me up for months now.

What do I use:
  • Jumper T-Pro ELRS (EdgeTX 2.7.0) delivered straight with the proper arm switch mounted instead of the momentary ones - Internal Module flashed to 3.1.2 CE_LBT over wifi
  • ELRS Lite Receiver
  • Toothpick F405 2-4S AIO Brushless Flight Controller 20A (BLHELI_32)
  • Betaflight Configurator 10.8.0
  • DJI FPV Googles Version 1 with analog input
  • baseplate for drone was a eachine novice 1
What works right now:
  • Passphrase binding worked. Can access WIFI of Receiver.
  • I get RSSI back, Transmitter tells me connection established when turning on the quad and connection lost when turning of - works good.
  • I can turn motors in Betaflight and got them all to turn the correct way
  • haven't tried video yet
Problem and what I have done until now:
No stick input in Receiver Tab although Receiver binds to Transmitter.

Before the jumper T-Pro I had a Taranis X Lite S with XM+ Receiver. I couldn't get it to work and thought its the issue with FrSky they created, the whole mess with ACCESS and ACCST.
Got an Archer M+ from FrSky and tried everything with that one - same problem - no stick input on the receiver tab. Transmitter kept loosing connection. FlightController showed some sparks, bought the same one again.
Sold the Taranis X Lite S and the transmitters because I was fed up with 'em...
Got the Jumper T Pro and ELRS Receiver - desoldered the Jumper on the FC which was on SBUS mode and soldered it to DSM mode.
Flashed the internal module on Transmitter to 3.1.2 CE_LBT and the Receiver to 3.1.2 over WIFI
Tried to invert SerialRX and turned the inversion off again.
Im working on this since October with waiting times in-between for the new parts

For Layout check, this is the FC:

This is the RX:

I tried to implement everything that people have asked for in previous postings to make this as easy as possible, I'll be happy to update any further information, so anyone else having same issues can benefit from this thread.

(I tried really hard to integrate the photos but no chance, Imgur  neither took PNG, HEIC, JPEG nor JPG. When attaching, nothing happens even if I reduce the images to 497kB and when embedding the image, there is only a white question mark on a blue background.... I didn't think it was so difficult to get photos onto this big big internet.  Rolleyes)

So both receiver and transmitter are using the same version or ELRS?
You have soldered Tx to Rx and Rx to Tx on the FC/Lite Receiver?
You have enabled the UART in Betaflight?

Don't use LBT unless you live in Europe.  If you do use it, you need the same version on the receiver.  You could try using the non-LBT version as well.

Yellow wire soldered on the FC is in the wrong place, is my best guess.  According to the BetaFPV, that pad is VTX, not RX6. Use the connector for TX/RX3, which is for receivers.

Hey
Thanks for taking a look at this! Very kind of you Smile
I've got two pictures with the version of RX and TX in the posting. According to those I think I've got the right versions.
For RX TX connection to the FC I am using the plug provided by betafpv as seen in the first picture. I got that wired vice versa to TX and RX on the ELRS Lite.
Unfortunately I live and Europe and forced to use LBT. When connecting to the ELRS Lite Receiver on the website the Receiver hosts itself on 10.0.0.1 it does not specify if it's got LBT version or not.
Should it?

On the wifi page of the Jumper Pro it says CE_LBT

The yellow wire goes to the VTX, I think that should be in the right spot.
In Betaflight I checked UART 3 to serialRX and I'm using Serial based Receiver Protocol CRSF.
I'll try and flash both to non LBT and see

I have the same, had to solder dsm pads, remove the sbus wire (i am using a caddx vista). Now works fine

Make sure you solder the DSM pad as shown in the manual. Also, scroll down further on the webui pages and show the rest of the options. If they are not showing up, move your phone/computer closer to the receiver and try again.

Hei

Thanks for taking the time Smile

With DSM Pads you mean these pads with the jumper solder to the middle and DSM, is that right?:

I took two more fotos of the firmware pages of TX and RX. Is there any useful information, which would mess with the connection to be found in there?

And last but not least, what kind of resistance should be shown by my multimeter when measuring resistance at the named pads in first picture. mine is showing 0,2 Ohm which seems a bit low. I may have shorted it? Can't really see since its so small if the little jumper(?) is touching both pads or if I blew it or if solder is shorting both pads beneath the jumper(is it called jumper?)

EDIT:
I just unchecked UART inverted at the Jumper T-Pro wifi page and tried again - same result, no stick input

Thanks for replying. What do you mean with subs wire?

The webui options you showed in the screenshots above are correct. UART Inverted should be checked for TX modules.

One more things to check:
Load the webui on the receiver again and click the Model tab. Make sure Model Match is set to off. Please also show a screenshot of the ELRS lua running on the radio.

If that doesn't work, flash the receiver via passthrough using the web flasher, being sure to select "erase flash" on the last page before flashing:
https://pkendall64.github.io/elrs-web-flasher/

You might as well update everything to ELRS 3.2.0 also, although I don't recall any specific bug fixes related to the issues here.

Thank you for giving me some hints, made sure model match is off and I've got the LUAs for both 2.x.x and 3.x.x firmware on the radio from the ExpressLRS Configurator software.
I managed to get it to work after another straight 7 hours on a Sunday. Flashed the 3.X.X versions multiple times and finally got it to work with the ISM radio bands without LBT (listen before talk). Thank you @Pathfinder075. Might that be for our heavy wifi Environment (at least 40 wifi networks around us and multiple mesh networks)?
It stayed alive for exactly one pack of 300mah and I'm getting RX_FAILSAFE as the reason for not being able to arm in BETAFPV again.

I think I'll desolder everything and start again. Since I plugged in the ELRS Lite RX (Tower) through the cable I can only imagine the problem would come from the DSM OR SBUS solder Pad. I'll start there
And after that I'll try to "deaden" the UART1 since the pad is lifted and I'm afraid the tiny wire connecting the UART1 Pad came loose and might be touching/shorting something. Read that this should be possible through pinIO in betafpv.

I'll keep posting progress to maybe help fellow googlers and passive readers. If I get it to work I'll crunch the F405 and the 1102 motors in an GEP-ST16 Frame since the novice 1 frame is just too dang small..

Did it..

Finally!

I flashed everything to 2.5.2 and found some weird behaviour:
When plugging in the battery (Radio already on) telemetry will come up on the remote. When i touch a single control to early (move the throttle sitck etc.) before the quad has booted up completely (at least 3-4 seconds) it will not recognize any stick input.
After the boot i can arm and fly no problem.
Interesting is, when this happens (no stick input possible) I still get telemetry bars on the remote and when turning of the remote or trying to switch models it warns me that the receiver is still connected.
That explains why i managed to arm on the bench but then when i was going out to fly it wouldn't arm. I simply didnt wait long enough...
I'm happy i found it but furious this costed me at least 40 hours... nonetheless i learned quite a bit on that journey...

Thats what i turned that eachine novice 1 into right now:

Thank you all for your patience and help! And hopefully there is something useful for the passive forum users..
