No OSD, Converted analog to HDZero Quads
#1
I have two different quads that I converted to HDZero from analog quads, and I can't get OSD to show in either of them. I have converted a different quad to hdzero and it has OSD working perfectly, so I know my method is not totally flawed, but I can't find what the issue is with the other 2 quads.
I have goku gn745 with a hdzero freestyle v1
I have a happymodel f411 with hdzero freestyle v2

rx is connected to tx and tx to rx on the fc, wiring has been swapped to other uarts to test for faulty uart
I have updated FW on the VTXs and the hdzero goggle
Drones are updated to betaflight 4.4
port msp is selected with dropdown menu VTX msp displayport selected
OSD is on in configuration
hd is selected for osd layout
checked to make sure the osd is not outside of my screen bounds

I have run through these basics a number of times and have watched every video I can find on getting HD osd to show, but no luck on these two. I even swapped in a different vtx to the one quad, but still no osd.

Any thoughts? Would a dump file be beneficial for you whizz-kids to look at? Thanks for the help!!

I’m still learning this stuff also.. can you get the HDZ menu to pop up (both sticks inbound and center bottom)?

No. Can't see the stick commands. They may be being activated by my inputs, but no readout shows up.

Try the HDZero presets instead of manually set the settings on the ports tab. I don't no why, but this helped me.

Thank you, I have applied the presets to both craft per the 4.4 standard procedure, but no luck still.

And did you try all other UARTs? Reset the FC to the defaults? Otherwise i have unfortunately no more tips for you.

Updating the fc firmware wipes it to defaults, correct? If so I have done that. I may try swapping to more uarts. I only have 2 uart options on one of the quads, but I have numerous other options on the other and will test them eventually.

.. I have heard about uarts being mis marked or labeled.. but he has these on 2 different flight controllers if I remember ..

Yes, exactly. Two quads, exact same symptoms. Third quad that works perfectly, all went through the same treatment. Just need to break it all down and resolder again i guess.

Just swapped uarts on the f411 from uart 1 to uart 2 and triple checked the rx/tx orientation. Still no osd. I think I will try to roll back my vtx firmware and see if that has an effect.

.. uarts should not make a difference with OSD… controls for system menus ..yes.. but osd should be there no matter what.. I have bench tested VTXs without a fc and have osd..
Now, here is a question, can the HDzero osd BE TURNED OFF?… if so.. how can it be turned back on?

I do have the hdzero goggle osd. I do not get osd from the craft. So no battery readout and no way to see stick commands (so I can not change vtx power)

Here's an extra clue. Both non-working quads have 4:3 video instead of 16:9. The osd is not off-screen though, as I have some items centered that should show up either way. Still stumped!

Problem in the end seems to be dead uarts. Swapped uarts again on the goku to a fresh and the osd is working.
