Currently I spend most of my flying time on a FrSky Horus X12S with a Namimno Flash 2.4 Module and OpenTX. This Tx has metal CNC Hall effect gimbals, and the Tx body has a switch layout I would like to keep close to in layout.

In the Radiomaster range that means the Tx16 Mk2 MAX with the max gimbals to be closest. Boxer is unsuitable. Price is not a concern, only quality and feel.

While it'll spend most of its time on ELRS and whatever the latest stable release of that is, I may need it to output FrSky for the few legacy models I run. I already have an iRange 4 in 1 plug in back module that should cover that.

My existing Namimno plug in back module should cover ELRS stuff limited to v2, and be usable in the Radiomaster, though my intent is to leave it in the Horus X12S until the need for that dwindles away.

SO:-

1.  Is there anything specific I should know regards this arrangement please?

2. Any tips/tricks/issues with regards the inbuilt ELRS?

.. Radio Master just dropped the “Pocket”.. and it’s 55-65$.. uses 18650 batteries.. gimbal sticks are removable.. output is 250 on ELRS .. edgeTX..
Hard to pass up at the price..
I’m THINKING of this or the Boxer.. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my Frsky Taranis.. other than it’s Frsky and it’s the size of a microwave oven..
Elrs modules themselves come in just under this price point.. kinda hard to pass up.. though I wish they had “switches” on the outside.. I’ll keep my eyes open..I’ve seen one mod on a boxer from push button to switch..

Well, I have NO interest in the "Pocket" or for that matter the "Boxer".

Back to the point of me posting this thread please. Regarding (only) the TX16 Mk2 MAX ELRS.

Anyone with one comment please?

Does the onboard ELRS create any limitations with regards its use or a module use such as the iRange?

Is there anything specific I should know regards this arrangement please?

Any tips/tricks/issues/foibles/oddities with regards the inbuilt ELRS?

Thanks!

I think the only thing to be aware of with the internal ELRS modules is that they’re limited to 250mw. I don’t know how far away you fly, so I can’t say if that is a dealbreaker for you.

If it is, then I’d suggest getting the internal 4in1 version and slapping a Ranger ELRS module in the back. Or, deciding if you want more range on ELRS v2 or v3, and using the internal module or your nanimo for whichever version you want less range out of, and your 4in1 module for FrSky (supposing that your nanimo module can output more than 250mw). Namimno? Naminmo? Spelling is hard sometimes.

Edit- and no, I don’t have that model. Big Grin
I have an original tx16s with an internal 4in1, and a RM Ranger module in the bay.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

I have a TX16S Mk II Max with the 4in1. I got ot about 2-3 weeks before I found out about ELRS. I ordered the Ranger module and feel I have the best of all worlds

I am very new to the hobby but this radio just feels good to me and as I get to play with it more (and currently it’s been limited due to work, life, and the weather) I’m liking it more

As Lemony said you are relegated to 250mW with the internal ELRS
My ability to remember song lyrics from the ‘60s far exceeds my my ability to remember why I walked into the kitchen just now

Thanks for that. I'm running my Namimno Flash 2.4Ghz module in my X12S Horus at 100mW (and 250Hz), UK legal. Its easily gone way further than adjacent standing spotting distance without issue, and well over curve of hill, (using staged spotters for test, officer!) so that's not a worry, never going there normally. By comparison, FrSky is MUCH less capable. Its rare a week goes by without a "fall to earth" from FrSky in quads flown with me

You have touched on what I am considering, normally using the Internal for latest ELRS version, and the module for the legacy (SPI) stuff left and happily working on 2.5.

I've got a Pyrodrone TX16s Max but it's the 4in1. Most of my quads are Tracer but I've also got a handful on ELRS and am using the Namimno Flash on that. I don't pay much attention to what ELRS is up to but I'm pretty sure I'm at least on v3 as I remember getting a Mob7 that I was able to download a firmware to update it's rx to v3. At the distances we fly 250mw internal probably would have been fine as that's what I've got the my external module set to anyway.

I can't say there is anything remarkable about the TX16s or the ag01 gimbals. Even the touchscreen for that matter once you're all setup on the radio I don't even look at the screen anymore. Hell I don't even change profiles when I swap from Tracer to ELRS. Though I almost always forget to switch out modules when I switch to a quad that has the other.

I still use my Taranis 9xd+ SE 2019 and other than it being FrSky it’s a great transmitter.

I use Ghost and TBS XF and if I got another transmitter it would probably be another Taranis especially if I can find them on sale which isn’t uncommon.

I put 18650 in mine using a hack on Oscars website and a racing gimbal on throttle side.
The racing gimbal definitely improved my throttle control immediately.Highly recommend using one.

If I was going to get ELRS I’d get one of the Ranger or a Boxer w/ELRS.
