Newbie with Questions
#1
I have been flying quads for a couple of years but just recently go into FPV. I have a Rodeo 150 and a Vortex 250. The TX I use for the Vortex 250 is a DX6i and I have heard that this is more of a park flyer TX. It works fine but I know I could use an upgrade.

I've always been happy with Spektrum and was thinking of eventually upgrading to a DX9. However, I have also heard that I should stay away from Spektrum for FPV Quads.

I'd like some suggestions on what direction to go. Also, if I go with a non-Spektrum TX, I'm guessing I'd have to replace the RX on the Vortex.

By the way, the TX that came with the Rodeo is a Devention DEVO 7. Is this a decent TX and can it be used for other Quads?

I haven't even gotten into setup questions using CleanFlight! That's coming next!!

Thanks in advance for any tips that you can send my way.

Spektrum is pricey, but that's not necessarily a reason to stay away. I use a DX8 with all of my quads and I really like it. If I were just starting out, I might go for a Taranis, but I see no need to change. The lemon-rx satellites are cheap, light, and work great on everything I've got.

There's nothing wrong with Spektrum radios or receivers. As Scotty says, the LemonRX receivers are great if you want to stay with Spektrum.

The biggest drawback I found with Spektrum for quads was that telemetry functions are not available in the smaller receivers and being able to have RSSI and the voltage of your flight battery sent back to your radio is a very useful feature. For that reason, I've switched over to FrSky receivers recently.

Personally, I use Walkera Devo radios - specifically the Devo 10 and Devo 7e. Both of these models are capable of running the independently created DeviationTX firmware which, along with some extra hardware, allows me to run just about any radio protocol you can name.

FWIW, Spektrum now makes a quad-specific serial Rx with telemetry capabilities: https://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Defa...D=SPM4649T
It's not cheap, but if you want telemetry, there is an option now.
