New motor making clicking noise
#1
Hi folks

The motor I have for my Pike airplane is Emax ECO 2306 2400KV which support batteries for up to and including 4S. The ESC I have for it is Turnigy OPTO Multistar 20A with BLHELI.

But there is something wrong with the motor or with ESC not being tuned to the motor. When I drag the throttle up over the half the motor starts to make clicking noises.

Checked bullet connectors and they are all ok.

Replaced the ESC with the similar one and that made no difference.

I made a video showing all that and the noise. Any idea whats wrong? Could it be the timings of the ESC that needs to be adjusted? If so where should I start? I Have never done that before.

first of all, take some distance to the recriver while doing that test, that distance can cause signal issues. signal jittering could do such things.

wrong startup power could cause that, maybe that old opto escs arent able to handle such a motor power.
i would suggest to get a new single esc, blheli s or blheli 32 - that would match well or better anyway.

20a for these 2306 2400kv is also on the edge on 4s, i would choose a 30a esc.
modern motors does give higher max thrust and does also pull more amps. 30a above would also match another motor if that is the source.

i dont know how to adjust an opto escs firmware, but blheli would offer all needed adjustements.

it lpoks like a nice printed plane, give us some pictures please :-)

If using an older ESC did you set the throttle range?
I suggest trying it with a prop on to see if noise goes away.
Going full speed on high kv motors without a load or prop isn’t good for motors.
