New ESC concept - 4 units that can be used as 4 in 1 [X-racer quadrant]
#1
Hey folks, someone shared this on Multicopters International facebook group, interesting concept by FPVmodel. It's simply a set of ESCs (identical units) that can be used separate or soldered together to form a 4 in 1 ESC stackable with FC. FPVmodel stated that they are 25A constant, 30A max. Check the thread on their page (there is a real photo).

My thoughts:
- 30A max can be too little for some hardcore racers (they rather buy dedicated hardware though)
- making it so it can be used together as one stackable unit defines the size - meaning they are big as standalone units but...
+ it gives us freedom of choice after buying just one set, we can freely swap frame type

What do you guys think about the concept?

I like the concept, but in practice it might prove to be difficult to do when removing a faulty ESC.. desoldering can be hard?
but great to see some innovation there Smile

It's very very clever to say the least and there may be some very good applications for it, but I'm not sure how practical they are. Now, if they snapped together .....but that introduces a whole 'nother set of issues. As Oscar said, very innovative......

Another thing I noticed right now is smart placement of signal+ground - more and more FCs have them in the same place (in 4 in 1 mode)

A new update: We've got several sets in hand to give out to reviewers this week to let them get a jump start on the review process. The first production batch is expected to arrive at the end of next week.

once concern only... cooling? majority of heat is disposed using the prop wash, if this will not be "strong enough" - heating up in 29Amps not on 19A for 30A this can be a great idea Smile

this way we can stackup all components and ... we won't cut our esc in half with a damaged prop Smile
All the best
