Naze32 Troubleshooting
#1
I recently ordered three Naze32 rev6 boards for a 250 I built. (I burnt up my previous Naze rev5 board and quickly learned that I need to have spares on hand)

Well, I was installing one of the new boards this morning and all of a sudden I realize the LEDs are no longer on and it slowly settles in that I had burnt another one up.

I have my OSD monitoring the battery voltage, so I assumed it was the OSD feeding high voltage back to the FC, so I continued to install the next FC without the OSD attached. Shortly after I connected the battery, the new Naze32 starts smoking! *sigh*

Let's backtrack- Before I installed the first FC I shortened the wires between the ESCs and each motor by soldering the motor wires directly onto each ESC. I then hooked up my CC3D, which I'm trying to replace, and I was able to get all of the motors spinning properly.

When I hooked up the second Naze board I ONLY had the four ESC connections connected to the board, so it seems that it HAS to be an ESC issue, or crappy boards. (I only one 5v line from the BEC on one of the ESCs connected)

Anyone have similar issue or know what my problem could be? I feel like I could have damaged one of the ESCs by soldering directly onto them, but it seems strange that they were working properly when I first hooked up the CC3D. Are ESCs super sensitive to heat?

I'm down to my last FC, but I do have two spare ESCs on hand. I'm going to have to order more FCs. *sigh*

yea definitely sounds like a fried flight controller...

what ESC are you using? can you check all the BEC voltages with a multimeter to confirm ? Some BEC output 6V for some strange reasons.

and you are not using the VBAT port on the FC?

I'm using the EMAX SimonK Series ESCs. I checked the ESC that is supplying power to the FC and it is outputting 5V.

At the moment I'm not using the VBAT port.

Dunno what it could be, but I'm thinking maybe your soldering is a little sloppy (sorry, just trying to help) and you are getting solder balls on your components. Its a good safety measure to tape everything off that you are not soldering. And before you plug in the battery ALWAYS check for shorts with a multimeter. This will seriously save your butt. I usually check after every power connection.
