Naze 32 rev6 w/ x4r Receiver: Can I use PPM & Smart Port TX Simultaneously?
#1
Receiver: FrSky x4r
Flight Controller: Naze32 Rev6
******

First off, Oscar - I know you don't use this flight controller, but I'm hoping someone has an answer for me.

As a precursor to this post, please note that I have read the following articles:

https://oscarliang.com/sbus-smartport-telemetry-naze32/

https://oscarliang.com/ppm-sbus-d4r-ii-x4r-sb/

I have also skimmed through this forum, and Google searched for the answer to this question.  It may boil down to just giving it a try, but I wanted to put it to the community first.

Question:  I am using PPM on my x4r, and had to use the jumper to short two pins in order to bind it to my Taranis.  Now, I want to be able to PID tune with my Taranis, and need to set up Smart Port Tx/Rx in order for that info to be sent/received between my FC and Taranis.  Can I just use the soft serial with only the Smart Port line connected to the shorted RC5/RC6 pinholes on my Naze32 rev6 - whilst keeping the rest PPM?  Or do I need to rebind the receiver in an SBUS setup?

I have attached a pic of my receiver connected in PPM format, and am hoping that someone has insight on this.  Worse case scenario - I'll just hook up the SmartPort and give it a try... and keep my fingers crossed  Big Grin

Thanks in advance for any help y'all can provide.

- Mateo

Hi Mateo,

I have never tried running PPM and SPort off an X4R.. as a matter of fact I've never tried doing the "tuning PID from Taranis" hack on Naze32 using Softserial.
In theory I think this might work, but I am sorry I think you just have to test it see if it works Smile
