multipurposequad
#1
there was a thread with the word multipurposequad, something which let me alert, someone will be disapointed by the result xD

im like exploring, so i did something with low hopes. there are many requests about turning a common freestyler into a longrange quad by the use of liion cells. the heavy weight of a freestyler doesnt allow to go efficiency, the average current doesnt work to gain benefits out of liion capacity.
i suggested to switch on a lower weight frame to increase the efficiency.

i charged my old liion 6s 18650 sonx vtc6 and mounted it on my racequad. its about 290g dry, about 590 with the liion cells. it has some t-motor 2306 1750kv motors, i used high pitched blades with much rotorsurface to stay low with the rpms and the current. the gemfan 5055x3. that rotor choice would need to be proofed by a comparison.

the build is pretty fresh builded and clean, the pids does match a 1000mah 6s pack, no adjustements for the much lower battery performance.

the the flight feeling wasnt to good, but i felt save by the battery performance. i was able to get 18minutes of cruising, i didnt expect that much xD the total distance would allow to go in the lr direction :-)

there is no gps on it, i dont know the flight distance. i might add one in a moment with build motivation.

maybe i will add a gps to explore the wrong use of a common racequad more.
a try on a huge lipo, something like a 3500mah 5s lipo and a a 6s 21700 liion pack.

that racer wont turn into my quad for distance

it was fun to explore, if you have a lightweight performance quad, i would suggest some fun exploring with high capacity packs :-)

Excellent. You’re making me want to try unconventional things with my current builds. Smile
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

I love flying race quads. Super light and nimble on smaller lipo packs and they have way less drag than a freestyle quad.

18 minutes is pretty impressive on a 5" quad. Best ive done with any quad has been 21 minutes on my 15" drone. Shooting for 30 minutes with a new lightweight design next. Running 5000mah 6s lipo.

We should come up with a purpose built long range 5" lol. I'll cut prototypes on my cnc and we can work all the kinks out and then I can sell the kits on my store.

I fly my Iflight Nazgul5 V2 with a 6s1p 21700 pack and bi-blade props more than any others in my fleet. I added a GPS and walksnail V1 as well and it is awesome for mid range flights out to 3 miles or so. I can get 18 minutes of cruising with it easily. I wish I had a lighter 5", but the winds here are always blowing and heavier does much better.

i can not believe that :-)

if you like to add some weight on a racequad, just use a 2p 18650 or 21700 and you will have the same weight of your nazgul total.
