0 09-Feb-2023, 07:20 AM (This post was last modified: 09-Feb-2023, 07:25 AM by Mugen_G.) Hello!
I have a very noob question. So I'm going to try to ask it in a way that will hopefully allow you guys to answer in a way that I can understand it...
If I have a set of 2204 2500kv motors (5046 props) hooked up to 30amp ESCs connected to a PDB that only supports 60amp max at 20amp per ESC (I don't understand the math)...
What will happen when I plug in a 3S batt and do a full throttle punch out?

100 09-Feb-2023, 12:31 PM (This post was last modified: 09-Feb-2023, 12:32 PM by hugnosed_bat.) 2204 shuldnt draw more than 20a on 3s and 5046 rotors.
in theory the traces can heatup to much and burnout. it could give damage to other parts.
it might be the rating for continious discharge, it might be able to handle 60a per esc for a short time
if you are going for 3s, i dont see any risk.

The wording on the Aio description/specs is unclear "PDB 60A with each ESC up to 20A"...once again the math doesn't add up...
I think I'll risk it for the sake of budget and a little animosity towards the quad...lol
Old Walkera f210 clone with proprietary FC Aio...the FC went bad and well...now I Got a shelled build with no FC that I don't really want to spend any money on...
Edit***
Wait a minute...it just clicked...PDB 60A...each ESC up to 20A...
It's a 15A per ESC board...ugh... I'll look for something else...

8 if you don't do long punchouts often, you'll really be fine with a lower amp rating. Overdoing the amp rating on the PDB isnt as crucial bc its just copper running through the board, and it doesnt just magically explode when you hit its rated amps+1. Itll heat up and degrade the longer youre pulling amps. obviously if you way overdo it it can just fail immediately, but if bat's 20a prediction is right, i wouldn't stress on the board being 15-20a rated per ESC.
Also, post a link of your PDB, maybe someone can find a similiar one with more power output to help you out.

100 you could go for it gently, check the heat after flight.....
but there is a risk for going inneficiency, destroy the performance...
as they are very inexpensive, a better matching pdb might be better. you could also do a harness, messy but you wouldnt need a pdb without any risk.

0 Hmm...
I had already found a board with the needed amps...but it's literally $20 more than I wanted to spend...lol
And it's a full Aio with 4in1 ESCs...so I'd have to rip out the existing ones...
The board I was originally looking at was the beerotor f4 mini.
An odd board meant for an octacopter? But it has a very simple layout which I like because even though I'm fairly proficient at soldering... I'm new to RC quads in general.
This other board has a very cluttered set up especially with the VTX out pad in a really weird out of the way location...
I'm going to see if I can cancel that and stick to the OG plan.
I'm not looking for as they say a "ripper" just a lazy cruiser to get me up in the air.
Thanks for the info.

41 As much as it's probably counter-productive to suggest it, you could just make a wiring loom and solder four positive and four negative wires directly to VBat and GND, then send one of each to each ESC. As long as the wires will take the ampage it would work. If you have the wires already, it could be a cheaper solution. One downside is you will need a separate BEC and another is you might get a lot of dirty power / noise that would need filtering/smoothing with a cap.
