Mini Minim OSD - Garbage characters
#1
I get garbage characters.

I found the faq but it didn't help. My FDTI board provides 5V. I've checked with a multimeter.
I reuploaded a couple of times.
Don't know what to do next.

----

14 I get garbage characters and / or font upload doesn't work.
  • Sounds like fonts need to be re-uploaded - but note:

  • The output stage (max chip) MUST be powered when uploading font. How depends upon your board / configuration

  • A programming voltage of 4.8v or higher is required.

  • Note some programmers have 3.3v/5v selection text swapped. Verify with a meter

  • Some stacked boards with USB connector also require vbat connected which powers the MAX chip and enables font upload

I have read from another forum to check the following things:
Is the 12V also applied to the Mini Minim OSD, it must be to get it working.
Did you removed the 5V + wire from the FC, it must be to get it working.
The voltage must be higher then 5.0V.

If its only 4.85V (which is still within the USB 5V spec) then the Font loading can fail.

This lower USB Voltage is very common directly from a Mother board's USB post.
If the Voltage is lower then try a good POWERED USB Hub which typically has a higher USB Voltage.

I won't use it with a Flight controller.
I will put it in a plane.
Here my setup:
4S -> Matec power hub -> Bat/Gnd OSD
Matec power hub 5v/gnd -> 5v/Gnd OSD

I've tried:
- 5v from the FDTI
- 5v from the Matec power hub
- 5v from an external BEC (reading 5.4V)

Still getting strange characters.
I see the voltage ok but instead of V it's a strange character.
Instead of the battery icon, strange character.
