Mini acro F4 flight controller
#1
Lately I am pretty much into the smallest brushless builds. After building my Minimalist 112, I wanted to try something a bit more protected that would allow me to fly indoors without changing props every minute Smile

Sandra from Banggood offered to send me some hardware for a test which I will include in that build, in this post I will tell you a bit about a Mini acro F4 that I’ve chosen.

You can buy it here: https://goo.gl/5FUQU7

Specs:

This board is based on STM32 F405 MCU with Betaflight 3.0.1 (REVO) preinstalled, but I quickly flashed it to newest AirbotF4 version to use dshot600 protocol.

As it arrives with Betaflight using REVO target, that leads me to believe that it can also run Raceflight BB builds, we probably won't be able to use a buzzer in that configuration.

It also comes with:
  • DSM2/DSMX socket
  • 16mb of flash
  • MPU6000 SPI Bus
  • Built in 5V BEC / 1A
  • mini buzzer
  • It may serve as a PDB if you are using separate ESCs
One thing you have to keep in mind while ordering this thing is that mounting holes dimensions are not standard - entire board size is about 30x30mm and mounting holes are spaced at 23mm. This is the reason for a lot of complaints about this product - they are mostly written by users that are not paying attention to what are they buing.

The FC arrives in an antistatic bag with a small buzzer packed in another, usual string bag:

Layout:

The layout of the pins/pads is pretty convenient, with pads available on both sides. ESC pins are labelled in a well known clean/betaflight pattern. On one side we have all hardware pins - two TX/RX ports, two sets of +5V nad ground, LED, SBUS/PWM and buzzer pins. USB and DSMX satellite port is located on other side.

There is also a boot button, but it appears to be a bit dodgy - it was actually hard to use it and the copper membrane fell off of it after a few uses. I still can short the pins using a wire as I usually do.

Not much to tell at this point except that everything works in Betaflight - I didn’t put it on the build yet.

Pros:
  • High performance board with F4 and 6000 SPI gyro
  • Convenient pinout
Cons:
  • Dodgy boot button
  • Uses non-standard size, so won’t fit too many frames or will require a crafty approach
The board seems to run fine up to this point, I will tell you more about the rest of hardware I received in later posts: Cheers,
Konrad

I'm using one of these in my DJ-105 build - also had the boot button fall off and Banggood replaced it quickly. The original board will not work though and nothing I do seems to bring it back to life...

Ended up fudging a 3D printed mount to get it to fit!

My button fell off before I even flashed the board Smile luckily it wasn't live at the moment, no chance for a short Smile
