LuxFloat and QX90
#1
Hi guys,

thanks to QX90 (and Inductrix) i have now chance to fly every day. I also have now chance to experiment a lot with different firmware settings.
Recently, i updated QX90 with cleanflight 14.1 and switched to LuxFloat. I am now trying to learn as much as possible about the meaning of the different variables. Well, it is complicated :/
First of all, looptime disapeared. I understood, that looptime now is somehow bound on gyro, but even with gyro sync off, there is no setting for looptime.
Beisde this, in the GUI, you can set angle and horizon strenght, in the help is written, that the meaning of the parameters is in documentation, but i am unable to find it.
So, does anyone knows, how is it with looptime in LuxFloat and with the meaning of the strenght settings?

The 2nd question is about motor_pwm_rate. Everything above 1000 means, that the motors are brushed. Now, in RC groups, someone proposed setting the rate to 32000, because that would mean less arcing and longer motor life. Another people are sceptical about that, setting the rate so high will result in loosing the energy in FETs. Beside that, i see no reason to make the rate higher than looptime. Also here, i would be very interested if someone knows, whats true.

Brushless PWM rates can be well above 1000. Anyhow, your friend is correct, the QX90 uses the SciSky board, it needs to be set to 32000 rate

Thanks for the answer, but 32000 means (when i understood that right) that you send 32000 pulses every second to every motor driver. The question is, make it any sense? When the loop frequency is 4kHz, then you send the same value to the motors 8 times in row. Where is the benefit?

It may be the fact that it's a 32 bit FC.  I'm really not that much into the technical aspect of the hobby although I'm learning quickly, I just setup from what I get from Youtube .  And in fact, I got the 32,000 rate info from one of Oscar Liang's tutorials.   One thing to take note though is to check and see if your board is already at 32,000 rate, as most boards come with this as the default settings now.  If not, you first need to set pwm rate = 2000, save, reboot (this needs to be done for some reason, even if it's already at 2000).  Then you can go ahead and change rate to 32,000.

Both my QX90 copters were at PWM 1000 by default. Well, i would like really know, how this works and what makes really sense.

Can't help as far as the technical aspect, but every site, forum video and even manual for the board instruct to set at 32000 and in fact all other similar boards as in the Beef's Brushed etc.

From Oscar:
Cleanflight Settings (02/08/2016)

I will always come back and update when I find better settings. If you have any good settings please let me know Smile

First update your Cleanflight to the latest version.
set motor_pwm_rate = 32000
set min_throttle = 1000
set max_throttle = 2000
set min_command = 1000
set acc_cut_hz = 15
set deadband = 4
set yaw_deadband = 4
set dterm_cut_hz = 20
