Long fly time
#1
Hi

I cant find answer on my question anywhere, maybe someone can help me?

Im building my first freestyle/racing drone all my components can supports 2S-4S
I have 218mm frame with 2205 2300KV motors.

Sometimes I want to put my gopro on it and make long fly, only for video.
Let say I have 6 batteries (I just all made that up, they probably dont exist)

2s 2000mAh (100grams)
3s 1500mAh (100grams)
4s 1000mAh (100 grams)

2s 4000mAh (200 grams)
3s 3000mAh (200 grams)
4s 2000mAh (200 grams)

which one will give me longer fly time ?
I think that will help me understand  Thinking

Definitely go for higher cell count LiPo, in your case 4S would be the best choice.

The amount of energy stored in a battery can be calculated as Voltage x Capacity. So really a 4S 2000mah has the same energy as the 2S 4000mah.

However, 4S has a higher voltage and therefore your motors would be able to run at higher max RPM and would feel a lot more agile in the air compared to 2S. It will also be able to carry a heavier payload. The motor and propeller might run more efficient at certain voltage range, but that really depends on the motor and prop.

Battery with higher capacity weighs more. There is a trade off between flight time and how easy your quad is to control. With a big battery, you could have longer flight time, but it might not fly terrible like a tank.

Generally speaking for a mini quad, I would say 4S 1300mah for faster/more agile flying, and 4S 1800mah for endurance flying. Myself prefer to use 1500/1600mah which I think is a good balance of the 2.
