Lizard 95 is no ground dweller!
#1
So I ordered an Eachine Lizard 95, FrSky version and it arrived today...too excited!!!  Anyway, I placed the battery (550mah, 3s) on the charger (11.66 volts out of the box according to my charger) and made it whole.  12.65 is topped off.

Bound it to my Taranis Q7x without any issue.  Shut everything down and cabled it to Betaflight, version 3.1.0.  Set the unit up Stock PIDs and a switch for arming set, it was time to test motors and such.  Removed the propellers when I first took it out of the box (it comes with two sets) and armed it for the first time.  Cool leds in the back create kind of a Christmasy feel!  Everything seemed to work so propellers went back on and tested it with a hover.  This unit is truly a little monster and the various videos around the interweb barely give it justice!

Anyway, this should certainly keep me busy as I work on the one I am building.

I have a second one coming in a few days, same as the one that arrived today due to a mixup in ordering if anyone is interested in purchasing one.  FrSKY version, it is NIB.  Paid $126 for it.  Would like to get what I paid for the 'spare one'.

This is after sending it around the yard and feeling completely out of control flying!  Fast and super quick.  It is going to take some getting used to.

The fun zone!

Here is the Lizard next to my E010s.

So mine must have been from the next batch - I received it on Friday after waiting quite some time for restocking.

The Bad:
  • Several loose screws on the frame and a few on the motors - so I went over them all and used thread-lock on any metal/metal screws.
  • One missing screw on the front spacer (underside) which holds the top frame 'cage' to the X frame.  Replaced missing screw.
  • A complete missing spacer and both screws on the rear underside - so the cage was originally being held simply by one screw on the front.  3D printed a suitable spacer and screwed in place.
  • Bound the RX to my Taranis, triple checked the RX settings but could not see any RX signal in BF configurator.  Flashed to BF 3.1.6, setup various settings etc again (left the PIDs at BF default).  Need to find the current sensor and voltage settings to ensure they are accurate.
  • Camera quality seems very poor - the picture is dark, contrast slow to adjust etc.  Why oh why.  I have the eachine AIO TX01/02 units and they are 10x better than this, they are clearly capable of making them so why do eachine put such a bad camera on this.
  • Camera/VTX gets quite hot even on 25mw.  Seems fine when flying but gets very toasty on the bench even via USB power.
The Good:
  • Flies really well even with the default BF PIDs.  So much fun.  The QX95 will get very little use now.
  • Flies really well, so much fun.
  • Did I mention it flies really well?  Make me realise my X210 flies badly and needs a lot of tuning.
Clearly in the rush to re-stock these the quality control / assembly has suffered.  That said it's great fun and I'm now having to get myself some additional battery packs for this little beauty.

Conclusion - despite all the 'bad' above, buy one.

Big Grin

The flight controller they use on the Lizard 95 does not have a current sensor.

I did wonder.  The reading on the OSD is waaaaaaay off although it does go up throughout the flight.  The OSD must be picking up the virtual current sensor (http://intofpv.com/t-virtual-current-sen...betaflight).  Worth using if it's in the correct ballpark?

The virtual current sensor is actually quite accurate if you use the same props and calibrate it properly

It can't be any less accurate than most of the shunt resistor current sensors are already! Big Grin

Most of them seem to offer something close to a wild guess.

A quick flight and crash in my yard.  Loaded BetaFlight 3.2 and wanted to feel the aircraft in the air.[Image: Flight%201a.mp4]

There is an 850mah 3s cell, it makes for longer flight time but is too heavy for acro.  I cannot wait to get it back up and start to work with it.  3.2 is smoother somehow, like it feels a lot more 'accurate'.

After a few years of sitting in a box...soldered a new pigtail for the battery and decided to bind it to my TX16S.  It still flies!!!

Video quality is horrible, but that was just what we were offered in the micros of that era, 2017.

It is light!  Under 70 grams dry.  I have a few of the old Eachine 3S-550mah packs, but they are dead.  I can fly it on the GNB 1100's though!

The old stock pack that came with it was pretty light and compact.

All up, under 115 grams and that is with a heavy battery strap.

I was thinking (danger Misses Robinson!) that with an update to an F4 micro stack and some 1103 motors...this might actually have some potential.  I will never modify this one though.  It is the aircraft that I first flicked ANGLE to ACRO with and it holds a happy place in my heart  Heart

These are the original props that came with it when I bought it! Smile

I had tried all of the props available at the time and these wide blade props performed best for it as I recall.

Okay, was able to get a proper flight in with one of my GNB 3SHV-1100's...I forgot how to fly such a lightweight craft.  It carries almost no momentum and I find it stalls very easily.  It is very quick though Smile

My definition of a Micro Class quad is sub 3" props because of starting on these little things.  To have as 95mm wheelbase and a frame that weighs in under 14 grams complete is just cool to me.  In the entire flight, never over 50% throttle and it is still a rocket!

Thought there was a spare frame kit for this one in the garage, but cannot find it.  Was thinking of building one of these with higher efficiency motors and a better RX.  Having a better VTX and camera would make for a really neat medium range Micro with and Endurance focus.

This is all up with the 1100mah pack.

you got 5min flight time :-0 nice!

i believe 2,5inch/65mm up to a lightweight 3inch biblad like the gf3018 on the same weight, probably just on 2s might be much more efficiency :-)
