LiPo brand guide
#1
So picking battery brand has always been a huge discussion. Most of us try out 3-4 brands tops and find a favorite among those. However there are so many manufacturers and it can be a bit of a jungle finding something worth buying so I was kinda hoping people might be interested in helping me listing brands and perhaps write a small review of their own brand tests.

My batteries that I use now are:

Eachine Falcon 180:
Tattu 3S 1300mAh 45C
Tattu 3S 1550mAh 45C
Zop Power 3S 1500mAh 45C
Eachine 3S 1500mAh 35C (Falcon 180 original battery)
Eachine 3S 1300mAh 30C (Blade 185 original battery)

From my experience out of these batteries the Tattu batteries definetly has less sag although they do show a little weakness after the first 2 minutes. I also have longer flight times on the Tattu batteries vs the others. I can push closer to 5 minutes (Lipo alarm set to 3,6) of really hard acro. I dont fly much FPV yet but I imagine you'd end up around the same minute-mark, 4-5 minutes. The Eachine batteries gives me about 3-4 minutes but sag quite a bit. However they are quite alright batteries and I would not go as far as calling them terrible. The Zop battery on the other had is just terrible. Sag from start to finish and barely 3 minutes flight time. To be fair I paid like $10 for it but I don't think it was even worth that.

It's hard to roll the dice on batteries due to limited experience but considering the things I miss from the Tattus and rolling a dice from there I'd give my Tattu batteries 5 outta 6, Eachine 3 outta 6 and Zop 1 outta 6.

I would like to try some Pulse batteries and plan on upgrading to 4S. I have 9 batteries today for my 180 and plan is to have around 10-12 batteries total. Also working on a new build and will be using the same batteries for that one.

Eachine Racer 250 and Hyperion Vengance 280:
Eachine 3S 1500mAh 25C (Racer 250 original battery)
Zippy 3S 1800mAh 40C
Haiyin 3S 1600mAh 30C
Tattu 3S 1800mAh 75C
Hyperion G6 HV 1800mAh 40C

Racer 250:
Like my 180 my Tattu battery is definetly the one that gives me least sag and the longest flight time. The racers weight and only 12A ESCs is probably why it feels saggy even with 75C but the sag isn't bad (slightly more than on the 180). Next up is the Hyperion battery. I do not have a charger for the "HV" part of it so I am unable to fully push it but in use with normal chargers it preforms just below my Tattu. It's only 40C and naturally doesn't have the extra punch when I throttle up hard. Both he Tattu and the Hyperion gives me about 5-6 minutes of aggressive acro flying. Next up, Haiyin. These batteries prefom surpricingy well considering they're only 30C. Their size however is not within the "norm" for 1600 batteries. They sag just a little more than the Hyperion battery and give me about 4 minutes of flight time. The Zippy batteries preform alright. They sag but not enough to ruin your flight experience. They last for 4-5 minutes and all in all they're good for their price. However they puff quickly. After 3-4 flights I already noticed the batteries started to blow up. Now I'm pushing 20-25 flights per battery and they still puff up little by little. Noway near "scary" yet but still, I feel they grow up a little too quickly. In last place, but still not useless, the Eachine battery that came with my Racer preforms as expected on the Racer. About 3-4 minutes aggressive flight with some sag (25C is too low). However the quad is flyable even with this battery.

Vengance 280:
The batteries preform much the same but it's easy to sense it's a lot heavier than the Racer. The Tattu and the Hyperion battery both sag less on this though. I guess this simply means the ESCs are better and more powerful and able to use the battery power better. The zippy batteries however feels much the same on this quad. I do not use the Haiyiin and Eachine batteries on this quad cause I feel they're too small and weak for it.

All in all, Tattu 5 outta 6, Hyperion 5 outta 6, Zippy 4 outta 6, Hayin 3 outta 6, Eachine 2/3 outta 6.

Dji Phantom 1:
Zippy 3S 2800mAh 30C
Taotuo 3S 2200mAh 40C
Phantom 3S 2200mAh 20C
Multistar 3S 5200mAh 10C

The phantom is no aggressive filyer and all one really wants from it is flight time. It seems most batteries preform equal on it. Probably cause of weight/power distribution should I guess. I get around 7 minutes flight tiime on all but the Phantom original battery. The original Phantom battery barely gives me 5 minutes. However this battery is old and should probably be switched out. I bought the quad used and the battery is pushing 2 years old, which is a long time for an active flyer.

I would give all batteries 4/5 outta 6 for the Phantom, but be careful drawing conclutions from it since the Phantom is NOT a preformance quad in any way.

So there you have it, my experience with batteries. Like I wrote further up, it's hard to roll a dice for batteries since experience is limited. The grades/diced rolled is purely based on my own experiences. I still feel preformance could be better though so I will not be giving any battery 6. I do realize zero sag is impossible and also has quite a bit to do with the quad-tuning, but when the crap batteries preform so far below the top ones I am certain improvements can be made even with just battery switches.

I hope others will share their experiences as well. "What battery do I pick" is always a question that pops up and having a thread for it should help both newbies and veterans picking their batteries.

I recently rolled the dice and ordered a few Eachine 4S 1300mAh for US$15 each. Looks like I will get mediocre performances for a cheap price!

At present my preferred 4S-1300mAh lipo is the Bonka. In my opinion they are better than the Tattu's.

Ive got 2 Eachine 4s 1500 they are great. I have 1 Eachine 1300 4s , its terrable, maybe I got a dud. I have allot of Dinogy batteries, they are good value for the money. I dont want to spend more than $40AUD on a battery, It hurts me when I damage a $60 item. HobbyKing has droped its price on Turnigy 1800mah to $30 , I have bought 4 of these. They are heavy , but I notice a extra punch on my amp hungry quads , including a QAV180 with 2600kv motors. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...ouse_.html
