Hey Guys,
So even though liftoff just had a good update with the new hannover map (I still love that map BTW... it's my #1 practice map now, with a custom set of elements in Autumn being my second fav) they've pushed a new update out. They say it deals with a bunch of stuff but really I see 2 main things about it that make me excited.
#1: The big one: Physics
They've worked significantly on the physics. The "floaty" feeling is definitely gone... in fact in my experience so far it might be a little too gone, but that might be because I am still trying to fly a vortex model that is heavy. I'll probably set myself up with one of the x-frames soon since in a matter of a month or two I'll own more x frames than Hs offline. It's taking me some getting used to. Flying a votex in the system still doesn't feel exactly like flying a vortex in real life but it's a little closer. I might need to plug my RL vortex in and try using my RL tune for my simulator tune to see if that helps... which brings me to the second big thing that has changed
#2: Flight controller config that is much more like betaflight.
As a new pilot who is relying on my use of simulators to accelerate my learning it's always bugged me how unmatched the configuration was on liftoff to what I was seeing in actual flight controller config software and videos. I used to bump P up to "3" and leave I and D at default and have no idea what it really did for anything lol. Now I can give a try of my actual configuration in liftoff to see if it makes it feel more like my setup. That's going to be fun but who knows if the simulator quad will still be flyable after the fact. Truth is the RL vortex is stock pids with custom rates. I tried to match my sim rates to my RL ones by memory but it absolutely feels like a snail... even with RC rate bumped up an extra 30% or so...
Bit of warning though, all of your custom models are gone... which kind of sucks... but if you remember how they were configured it's not too bad to rebuild them.
Here is the liftoff update blog post in case anyone is interested.

I know some of you may not even use sims any more if you ever did but I find that I am flying liftoff almost exclusively these days and I generally get the equivalent of 20-50 batteries worth of stick time in each week extra because of it. For those of you who are new not only is it a good way to learn very fast it's also a ton of fun and a flight first thing in the morning is a great way to shake off the grogginess.
If anyone is in for a race in the hannover course tomorrow @ 2pm GMT I think I may set something up (depending on if there are any responses to this post saying that people are in).
