I too am a newb and am taking a long time to bloom into the Mr. Steele. I do post a few flights on my You Tube channel.. I am having issues with Rolls I would like to post a Fail and maybe you guys can tell me where im going wrong.

do i have my rates too high? Everytime i try to do a roll like this i screw it up.. haha as luck had it .. i landed upright!!

Yes the rates are too high. Lowering them it will help alot. If the RC Rate is currently set at 1.00, try 0.70 as a starting point then experiment until you find what feels best. Also don't jam the sticks so aggressively. The slower (or faster) you move the sticks towards the end of the stroke will determine how quickly the quad performs the rolls/flips, if that makes sense ? Add some EXPO, so the beginning of the stroke is less sensitive. Try to get more height next time and dont try the roll so soon after take off. Give yourself some breathing space.

Also try a simulator, Velocidrone is really great for getting to grips with rolls, flips. It allows you to adjust the rates settings just like in Betaflight. Give it a try.

It has been almost 3 years since I made the original post in this thread.  I look at my progress thus far and look at the progress of some of those that have been flying only a few months.....in some cases just a a few weeks.  I just shake my head.  I applaud you all!  I wish I could learn that fast.  As the title of the thread says...I am STILL learning to fly, as I suppose we all are.  I just wish I could learn faster!! Big Grin Big Grin  Regardless, I am having fun and reaching a point in my life soon where hopefully I will have more time to devote to it.  So, without any further excuses, I submit the following for your .....amusement.  Footage was captured with a RunCam Night Eagle on a Tweaker 5 at dusk.  Could not really put my HD cam on....so sorry for all the video break up.

Love it! Thumbs Up
Such a beautiful home and flying spot! Even in black n white Wink

The best thing for increasing your learning speed it to go out with a plan. Just like when I train with my pistol, if I just go to the range and shoot, I might pick up on something and make an improvement. But if i go with a set of drills to run while at the range, I come home having improved on that task. I have always translated this into my practice flying. One day I'd focus on power loops, the next, split S's. Or simply smoothing out my right hand corners one day.
Just some ideas Wink Loved the video man!

Thanks DoP, I appreciate it. I 100% agree that you've got to have a plan.....focus on something to improve every time. I have been doing more of that lately, but my biggest problem is having time to fly. I have a job that requires me to travel, many times without any advance notice and I can be gone for as much as two weeks at a time. So sometimes I'll go a couple of weeks and not get a bird in the air and when I do, it's usually only a pack or two. If I fly say four packs in a day, that a LOT for me! Anyway, sorry for the rant, thank you for the kind words! : )

Oh man! Ive been down for a few weeks now and have developed a twitch and eating problem ROFL Let alone if I only got to fly 1-2 packs every couple weeks!
That is for sure your limitation. By the time you even get to go fly again you're probly right back where you started lol.
Hopefully you get to put some real time on the sticks soon buddy! Heck I'm broke at the moment, I'll take your next job and you can take a week or two off to fly. Wink

Trust me brother, if I could take you up on that offer, I would! Big Grin  I hope to have more time over this summer.  The good t hing is that I don't have to pack everything up in the car and drive somewhere, all I've got to do is walk out the back door.  I'll keep ya posted on my progress.....or lack of it.  Thanks for the  encouragement!  Smile

Thanks Oscar Big Grin  There will be more coming...not as fast as I would like I'm sure, but more.  As soon as I can get my chameleon fixed (minor problems....just a matter of doing it), I'll get some color.  Smile

I'm just at the beginning of my journey. I feel like I'm hooked. my gf can't be live the time I'm taking on research for drones budget were to start. iv seen a few vidios on getting started with fpv and acro. starting slow with hover and progressing from there.
I'm hopping to work out a lot of stuff on a simulator.
your post is an inspiration as well as being daunting at the road that lies ahead. I'm looking forward to it any way.
this looks like the closest to flying while sitting on the ground.
looking forward to gleaning information here, and hopefully in the future contribute.
