That's actually a good idea.  I was going to start back with FPV last night, but I had a problem with my video and by the time I got it fixed, it was dark.  I'll be going out of town for a week starting on Wed., but when I get back I'll see if I can make that happen.  Thanks for the suggestion!! Ok Folks.....this is one of my first flights after I got the quad built........flying LOS in angle mode.  Little longer then I intended, but for anyone interested, have a good laugh!! Big Grin (I promise they wont all be this boring).

hey that's not bad for first flight LOS. I've been flying LOS for awhile now and I have to keep the quad facing away from me or things go bad really quick.

Thanks Jimmy. I don't have too much trouble when it's coming at me....just takes a little longer to process the stick moves as in "Oh crap...I'm gonna hit that.......oh well, too late". My biggest problem is depth perception. When it gets a hundred feet or so away, I have a hard time telling if it's beyond a tree or in front of it and I turn I usually run into the stupid tree. When it is more or less in "level" flight (not enough forward pitch to tell if it is indeed pitched forward), I can't tell if it is drifting away from me or coming to me and I usually back into something. I hope to do some FPV today so we'll see if that improves. Appreciate your input Jimmy!

Man, there's nothing to be ashamed of. I flown my first miniquad LOS for a few months before jumping into goggles and I still believe it's way harder than FPV. It just feels "less natural". Both take time to master, so just keep on going with what gives You most fun - if one starts to be boring or repetitive, just switch between points of view.

BTW: Don't switch off radio until you unplug lipo from the copter.


BTW2: That garden will be a great spot to fly FPV Wink

Thanks Konrad, much appreciated.  I always disarm the copter before I turn off the radio (failsafe got me a couple of times when I didn't), however I am sure it's safer to unplug first and will try and remember to do that from now on.

That "garden" as you put it is full of evil azalea bushes that are always trying to reach out and grab my quad.  More often then not they are successful and they're not satisfied with that....they draw the quad deep inside their branches so I have to dig my way to it, tearing MY arms up in the process.  Angry Oh well.....price of doing business. Smile   Thanks for the response Konrad!

Regarding the "unplug before turning the Tx off" thing, learnt it the hard way with different receivers: Turnigy 9x v2, EzUHF, FrSky DR4-II.
Even if the copter is disarmed by switch, turning Tx off and then on results in 1500us output on the throttle and the mode switch channels, arming the copter back on.
I know I shouldn't do so, but just in case, is there a way to disable that behaviour? I've checked CleanFlight's receiver tab and Aux channel is indeed at 1500us for a prompt amount of time. It only happens if the Tx was switched on, then off, then back on.

Andrey - don't know what TX you use currently, I just set failsafe for my arm switch channel to 1000us, effectively disarming, I don't bother with setting this channel on FC side, because when it loses signal it automatically disarms anyway (set to drop). If you cant set aux channels on your TX, then set arm on 2-position switch and set ARM above 1600us in modes tab or even higher, so entire arm state is way above default output. I do the same with beeper so it doesn't beep on the bench.

I'm using Turnigy 9x with OpenTX and DJT module, D4R-II receiver, but that also happens with the standard module and EzUHF. The problem is not failsafe, it kicks in fine and disarms the quad, but when I tur the transmitter back on all channels get 1500us pulses while the radio boots up and checks switches. As soon the radio has booted up, each channel is back to corresponding sticks and switches positions.
Maybe it's the OpenTX and I can adjust somehow?

I don't use OpenTX or 9x so can't really help you with that issue. Maybe just set arm state away from 1500us like I do?

Then my 3 pos switch will effectively become two-pos, and I need all the three positions for arm and airmode Sad

Why is that? You can either arm+airmode on one position or set airmode as an always-on feature. Also 9x has 8 channels right? Just use another switch if you must.

EDIT: can you put expo on a switch on OpenTX? Maybe that will solve the 3-pos problem.
EDIT2: expo may not work while it's booting, so... nevermind Smile

Found the cause, failsafe in CleanFlight was set to hold 1500us on ARM switch :-) Also set FrSky failsafe to "no pulses" and configured everything accordingly to CF's documentation.

Hey Folks.....

I said I would update from time to time.  Just finished my 160 build (covered in another thread) and I was going do some FPV with both my 250 and the new 160 this afternoon, but apperantly the powers that be had other ideas and it's raining cats and rats and elephants and all kinds of other stuff,  So as soon as it dries out a bit I will try and get some videos as promised.  In the means time I am just browsing the online hobby stores trying to decide what else I can't live with out....... Big Grin
