La forge style channel scanner
#1
So many of us will have seen the la forge module for the fatshark goggles, when I did a bit of looking around I found that it is an open source, considering that I had been messing around with arduino in a couple of other projects I thought ok this will be a challenge but it's got to worth a try, right?

I already had most of the parts and what I didn't have I could get from maplin, so following the instructions again....
You will soon see that's mostly what I do with projects then I attempt to adapt them if I need to, I find its easier to start with something to build on.

I decided to build it all on breadboard as this would make it much easier to tweak when I mess up a wire...

The hardest part was doing the SPI mod to the Rx module, there are a few different versions of the hardware out there and I've found that the layout differs slightly from module to module but if you got good eyes or a magnifine glass you should be OK, it's just removing a tiny resistor sounds simple right? This resistor is tiny and in my case was quite close to other components which made it had to get to with the iron, after that was done the rest was almost easy,

I decided I wanted a bit of flex on the antenna connection just in case I decide to put it in a box later so made myself a small rp-sma extention and soldered that to the Rx module, I also went for pins on the module it just made it easier with the breadboard, wiring was a bit of a nightmare I'm crap and reading plans and doubt my self far to much but got it in the end,

I found that the arduino library for the OLED screen didn't want to work, after about 3 days of looking around online for an answer I saw that someone had back dated their library and it sorted it, verify and upload the code and give it some power, after a reversed tx rx on the screen was sorted it powered up and was working great,

I ran the calibration sequence got my quad out and powered it up and what do you know after plugging the little unit I made into the tv via rca out I had myself a awesome little channel scanner...
This thing will be great for out in the field just as it is for finding the cleanest channel it could with a pcb (from oshpark I think it is) be adapted to fit a pair of fatshark goggles and would work as a home made la forge module, If any one has a go at the project and has any problems I will so what I can to help I'm by no means an expert but have picked up a couple of tricks on the way.
