After looking at upgrading stuff on the original KaiTy-Mini 210, I have decided that there is enough I feel like changing to warrant a complete craft. I have ordered most of the components: RD-210 CF frame Matek PDB Betaflight 3.2 F4 FC DYS 30A 4-in-1 ESC FrSky R-XSR RX Lumenier Pagoda 2 VTX antenna TBS 600mw VTX RunCam Swift Camera No motors yet. Have to wait for my next allowance to pick them up as they are almost a full half the overall cost to build. Will be using the Lumeneir MB2206-9 2450KV Freybott SE motors. Changing the camera lens to the 2.1mm as I have gotten so used to flying that FOV. Also, have attempted to pick up all the stanchion, nuts and bolts to be color coordinated. I think it will well reflect me while flying around, but it will have to wait for the unveiling before anyone else gets to see it. I really feel like this is going to be a big jump up from what I built in my first 5" and am excited to experience what it turns out to be. Slightly heavier frame, but much more motor powered buy 10 more amps of ESC. The receiver is also a little more featured so it will have telemetry and maybe a bit more range. I cannot think of anything I have missed...any thoughts most welcome! SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I have been hearing great things about the TMotor F40 III, I think i will try some of these next year https://www.banggood.com/T-Motor-F40-III...mds=search Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 LOL, yes...the frame is on the lower end of the cost spectrum and the best part is I ordered it a week ago as a replacement for the Lisam LS-210 that the original KT was based around. Was considering a true X acro frame like a Skitzo, but $90 for a frame is a little out of budget right now. Decided to stick with a familiar design that offered changeable arms for now. I can always migrate things later as I get a chance to look at more frame options. The Tiger motors were my second choice to the motors I am going with. Tiger does not have the color scheme I am after! Overall, I have enough experience now to feel out what worked and what left me nervous about my last few builds. I do not feel attached to the one selected, just a starting point really. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I will post a build log on my blog in a day or 2 Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 I was considering the CHARPU frame as it is nearly identical to the Lisam frame I am flying now. I can get one for about $40 or I can get another Lisam fro $20. The RD frame is about $25 and the reason I feel it is a decent option for getting things together is the changeable arms. I have the motors picked out and I am looking forward to ordering them on the 15th. Definitely not skimping on motors. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I am wondering now if I need a PDB...it has the XT60 cable soldered right to the board. Soldering the ESC and FC together feels like a coming challenge. There is a cable supplied with the ESC that has 5 and 12 volt supply. It looks like I simply solder the RX into place and the motor signal (PWM 1-4) lines on the FC. What I do not see on any of the pictures I have seen, there is no GND. Where does the black negative line solder in to the FC? Missing something I think. Figured it out. Took a bit to logic through how to route power, but it suddenly made sense. XT60 POS lead to sensor. Routing power from the discharge side of the sensor to the POS on the ESC. Then ground the FC from the bottom NEG pad. I did not like the pig tail attached to the ESC, so I will be using a PDB so that the board side of the XT60 is rigid. Waiting on the DYS F4 FC that should mate well with the DYS F30A ESC. I am going to start it out with the RCX RS2206 2400kv motors. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I have never had to worry about battery leads getting near props. If the PDB board is mounted on top, running the wiring down to the FC and ESC would be easy. I would be able to utilize the current sensor with the added benefit if clean and straight wiring. I was looking at a few of the options for just mounting the straight through CT-60 connector, but they all cost as much as a cheap PDB and the PDB can be mounted on the 30.5x30.5 format. Have to say that I am really impressed with the fit and finish of the RCX motors...the stater is wrapped beautifully for a "cheaper" motor. Really feeling excitement about getting them airborne soon All 4 of them are equally fine in detail, love it! SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Not as cheap as RacerStars, but a far better build quality, and great quality control yet still very affordable, gotta hand it to RCX! Almost ready to fly. The RX that was initially installed failed catastrophically, so another XM+ is on order. It was an older one and it had taken a few knocks, enough so that the connecting pins had sheared and the BIND button was broken off, but I thought it would work for testing as it was still bound the Q x7...NOT! Final configuration: Frame: ReconFPV RD-210H clone FC: DYS F4 Pro "Upgraded" V2 ESC: Speedix IS30 esc;s Motor: RCX RS2206 2400kv RX: FrySky XM+ Camera: RunCam Swift 2 VTX: TBS Unify Pro After connecting the RX from KT-125, I was able to get the unit armed and ran a motor check...everything seemed to be working. There is one strange behavior I have noted...with AIRMODE enabled, once armed the motors slowly throttle up on their own and start going out of sync, even when throttle is at “0”. If AIRMODE is disabled, everything seems to work fine. I have not tested it with props yet, so I am not sure what to expect. Cannot wait to find out! It has taken to the air now and whoa! The props are a little bit chewed, but they have it flying. Need to install capacitors still and the video shows a bit of issue when it punches, but that is really a minor task. Cannot wait to get it out to my super secret flying spot this weekend! Also, I need to start investing in higher C rated cells, but for now the ones I have are fine. At first, the whole craft felt a little heavy, but then I pushed the throttle to about 75% and it rocketed away...I am very a very happy girl right now SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!
